Last chapter, Seric and Karia encountered a little girl in distress, and they find out that the person they came to Magthera for has been kidnapped. They then find the hideout of his kidnapper, and after defeating a few robots, Karia has an idea to get past the laser protecting the room.
Seric's P.O.V.
"DAMN YOU KARIA!!" I yell, squirming to try to break free of the grip of Karia's arms wrapping around my chest and holding me up, but it barely slows her down due to me being so light.
A second later we enter the room, and the laser turns on and once again I feel an intense burning sensation on my back.
"Stop squirming! Be a man and protect me for once!" Karia says with annoyance in her voice while charging forward, maneuvering her arms around me as to not get burnt.
Paying no attention to her complaints I keep on squirming due to the immense pain.
The fact that Karia was moving me around while running to make it so the laser doesn't go straight through her "shield" was definitely not helping, but more like giving me a skin roasting tattoo. On my entire back.
"All right! We're almost there!" Karia says enthusiastically.
By now, I'm almost sure that my entire back is charred. Gladly though I look back in tears and see that we're right next to the source of the laser beam.
"Spirit of Kodan: Compress!" Karia shouts as she puts her hands together around me, causing two giant red ghost hands to appear out of thin air. A second later the hands clap together, crumpling the machine into a thin piece.
"Phew. Thanks Seric." Karia says over my loud cries of pain as she puts me on the ground, laying me on my chest.
"How the hell was this thing invisible though?" Karia asks as she walks over to the thin sheet of the machine and starts to investigate it.
The pain is starting to decrease which I'm guessing to be because of my blessing. Soon after, my injuries once again regenerate and my frustration turns back to something else.
"Karia... I swear to God if you ever do that again..."
"What? We needed a shield and we found one. You're just mad that you had to do something for once."
"We could of taken literally two more seconds and found a piece of metal... Also I wonder who completed the trial?" I reply bitterly and with sass.
"You recovered now?" Karia ignores me.
I hadn't noticed but the pain on my back is now completely gone.
"Why do you care? " I respond while standing up.
Looking around the white room, we see an open door at the back of it that leads to what seems to be a dimly lit staircase.
"Well Seric, you know the drill." Karia says.
"What?! No no no, that was a one time deal."
"Why the hell would I go first when you're there one who's literally invincible? I'll be right behind you anyways." She replies angrily.
I sigh as I walk first into the stairwell with Karia behind me. The stairs are curved and eerie with little electronic lighting, and I start to nervously walk up them which feels like it's taking hours.
Finally we reach another door at the top, and taking a deep breath I start to open it and peak through with utmost caution.
I don't see anything except for red and so I fully open the door.
