Hyunwoo

~after work~

I purposely left before Kihyun did. I hid in the alleyway next to the precinct and waited for him to come outside. After ten minutes or so of waiting, I spotted a certain redhead coming out of the precinct with his briefcase and some files in tow. He looks at his phone for a minute or two before walking in the other direction. I waited a minute before trailing him. It wasn't like I was suspicious or anything. I just wanted to make sure that he got there okay...

After some straights and turns, Kihyun walks into a fancy looking bar. I followed suit after a few minutes. When I walked in, I peered around the corner to see where he was. He walks over to the table by the window and settles in. I half ran half sped walked into a booth. I picked up the menu and hid my face behind it.

I lowered it slightly to see if what was going on. Kihyun is looking at the files he had and...

"Good evening, sir. What can I get for you," someone asks suddenly.

"Umm, a glass of Pinot Noir," I said randomly.

"Would you like anything to eat with it," the waitress asks.

"Whatever you think pairs with it," I said quickly hoping that she would stop talking and leave me alone.

"Okay then, sir. I will be right back with your order in a few minutes," she says before she leaves. Just then, the man from earlier today walks into the bar. He spots Kihyun and walks over slowly. He creeps behind him and shouts, "Boo!"

"Gah! Who da- Oh, it is only you," Kihyun says as he placed a hand over his heart in a vain attempt to calm himself down.

"Hahaha. Are those case files? Come on, Kihyun ah. You are off duty. Put those away," the man says as he takes a seat across from Kihyun.

"Sorry," Kihyun says sheepishly and starts to put the files away.

"Some things haven't changed. You would always have your nose in a book," he says.

"Sunbae," Kihyun says in a whiny tone that I never heard him use before.

"Just pulling your leg. Did you order something already," he asks.

"I ordered us some Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Montrachet. If my memory is right, this was what we drank when I graduated from law school," Kihyun says.

"You're right. We indeed drank a whole bottle of this that day," he replies.

"Ugh, don't remind me. I had the most mind splitting headache afterwards. From that day on, I swore that I will never drink more than 2 glasses of wine at a time," Kihyun laughs with a hand in front of his face.

"Sorry to intrupt. Here are your drinks and platter," a waiter says as he came up to the table and then placed the glasses of wine and  plate of food on the table.

"Thank you," they both said at the same time.

"Jinx," Kihyun said.

"Under a roof," he says.

"Damn it. All well," Kihyun chuckles and takes a sip of wine. They continue on chatting about the past. I was too focused on listening to them that I didn't notice that the waitress had came back with my order. Over the course of the next few minutes, I drink some of my wine and ate some of steak.

"Ugh, I need to go to the bathroom. Excuse me," Kihyun says and leaves the table when the guy nods. I sighed under my breath and thought to myself, "Maybe, he isn't a bad person. Maybe, I read him wrong..."

Kihyun comes back a few minutes later. They picked up where they left off. In midst of it all, I noticed that the man was looking at him funny. Kihyun didn't show any signs of discomfort.

"Kihyun ah~," he says in a disgustingly sweet voice.

"Yes?"

"Are you still single," he asks.

"Ah, yes. Why do you ask?"

"What do you say about dating me," he asks.

"Dating you? Aren't you engaged to Yuran Noona," Kihyun asks with shock written all across his face.

"Hmm, we broke up long time ago," he says and holds up his left hand to show that it didn't have a ring on it.

"I- I don't think so, Sunbae. I think we should stay like this a Sunbae and Hoobae relationship," Kihyun says with a tight smile.

"Come on. Don't be like that. I know you liked me during law school," the man says and places a hand on Kihyun's.

"Sunbae! That was a long time ago. It was only a silly crush," Kihyun says and tries to take his hand back. But, the man holds on tighter. Rage instantly filled my mind as I saw this. I gritted my teeth, tried to convince myself not to run over there, and beat that guy up.

"Kihyun ah. We both know that is a lie. I know you still like me," he says and forcibly brings Kihyun's hand up to his lips before kissing it. That was the last straw. I hurriedly tossed enough bills on the table to pay for what I ordered and spedwalked  over to them. I grabbed his offending hand and squeezed until he let go of Kihyun's hand.

He yelps in pain and lets go. Kihyun looks at me in shock and is rendered speechless. Without wasting another second, I grabbed Kihyun's hand and started to pull him out of the bar. He grabs his bag as soon as he realized that what was happening. After I put some distance between us and him, I let go of Kihyun's hand and kicked the nearest thing which happened to be a big rock. I groaned inwardly and muttered some curse words under my breath.

"Holy shit! Are you okay," Kihyun asks.

"I'm good."

"...thank you for saving me earlier."

"No problem."

"How did you even know I was there....Did you follow me?"

"Umm, no?"

"Sure... why did you follow me?"

"I...well...umm...it was just a coincident?"

"...."

"Okay. Fine. I followed you," I said when I realized that he wasn't going to take bullshit for an answer.

"Why?"

"Because....I like you," I said without thinking.
