Hyunwoo

~the next week~

~the country side~

After a long and awkward drive to the next crime scene, we got out of the car and stretched. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Kihyun taking off his black tie and peach colored suit jacket. He tosses it into the car and scans the area before us. I had expected for the local police to be here waiting for us, but they had called earlier saying that another case needed their attention immediately. The local police department doesn't have a forensics lab due to lack of funds and being understaffed.  So, I had to bring items to collect evidence.

After getting said items from the trunk, we went under the tape and began canvasing the scene. There was a trail of blood leading up to an old oak tree. A rope was tied to the tree. Articles of clothing was scattered all over. The weapon was no where in sight. The police here had reported that the victim was stabbed twenty times and hang from a tree alive dripping blood like a butcher cutting the throat of a chicken to drain all of its blood out.

"Ugh," Kihyun exclaims. I turned around to see what was wrong to find him covering his nose with his hand. "I just hate the smell of blood," he answers my unasked question.

"Hmmm, that's ironic," I mumbled as I put on gloves to collect the evidence.

"Do you see that," Kihyun asks suddenly.

"What?"

"Up there. On the next tree. There is something shiny," Kihyun says and points another oak tree a few feet away.  I walked over to the tree and looked up trying to see what he was talking about. Soon enough, something metallic catches my eyes. I jumped up, grabbed onto one of the lower branches, and pulled myself up to get a closer look. To my surprise, it was just a soda can. I laughed and jumped back down.

"What's so funny?"

"It's a soda can. I don't think the killer would so stupid  that he would leave the murder weapon nearby...,"  I snorted.

"Right... I'm just....," he laughs halfheartedly, and walks away.  I simply shook my head and returned to what I was doing before. A few minutes later, I heard Kihyun shout. I threw down the bag I was holding and quickly ran to where I thought I heard the sound come from. I saw him lying on the ground holding his left leg.

"Holy shit. Are you okay," I asked as I jogged over to him.

"Does it look like it," he sniffs, and looks at me with watery eyes. I stared at him momentarily as I wasn't used to seeing him look so vulnerable.

"Let me see," I said and rolled up his pant leg. Then, I gently grabbed onto his left leg.

"Ow! Let go, you oaf. It hurts," Kihyun snaps, and smacks my hands away.

"....I think you just have some bruises and maybe sprained your ankle. What happened," I asked.

"I fell," he answers.

"Come on. Let's go to the clinic that we saw on the way here and get your leg checked out," I said and helped him stand up. Once he was standing, I took his left arm, slung it around my shoulders, and put my right arm around his waist. We tried to take a  few steps forward, but it didn't work out so well. Thus, I pulled away from him and picked him up while trying not to jostle his injured leg too much.

"Wha- what are you doing? I can walk," he says.

"Sure, you can..."

"YeAh," he retorts and tries to get out of my hold.

I held on tighter and said without thinking," Just let me take care of you."
