Hyunwoo

~fast forward two hours~

"The results are back. The victim is identified to be Ji Hyungyeol. Cause of death is asphyxiation. He also suffered a few stabs while he was still alive. But, the wounds were all just a inch away from vita organs. This suggests that the suspect has some anatomy or medical knowledge. He is 35 years of age. A teacher at a local high school. No rap sheet. According to preliminary research, he seems to be a very well liked person," Changkyun says after reading the files from the lab.

"Is there anything else at the scene that can lead us to the suspect," Kihyun asks as he drinks tea from a mug.

"Well, there was some stuff but it is hard to say if it would lead to the suspect as the building is abandoned and anyone could have went inside," Jooheon says.

"Then, what do we know," I asked.

"The basics at this point," Changkyun says.

"Does he have a family," Kihyun asks.

"He has a wife and a kid. His parents don't live in Seoul though," Jooheon replies after putting his feet on top of his desk.

"Do we have an address," I asked.

"Here," Changkyun says and hands me the file.

"Okay, Changkyun and Jooheon, go revisit the crime scene and check if there is something that the medical examiners missed. After that, go around and try to find the witnesses. Oh, Lucas, you can join them too. The others can focus on the cases that you guys were working on. Kihyun and I will go question the now widow and child of the victim. Is that understood," I asked.

"Yes, sir," the others chorused.

~forty two minutes later~

~at the victim's house~

After walking up to the door, I took a deep breath as it wasn't easy to tell the victim's family the bad news. I pressed the doorbell and waited with Kihyun for someone to come to the door. A minute or so later, a middle aged woman opens the door.

"Can I help you," she asks with a weary look in her eyes.

"Good afternoon, are you Mrs. Ji Hyeona," I asked. She nods. "We are from the Seoul Police Department and Court. I am Detective Son Hyunwoo. This is my partner, Prosecutor Yoo Kihyun. We are here because of your husband," I said before showing my badge to her. Kihyun showed his to her too.

"My husband? What happened? My husband is a nice person. He wouldn't even hurt a fly," she says with a worried look on her face.

"If we may, could we come inside and tell you," Kihyun asks.

"Oh, right. Where are my manners? Please come in," she says and steps aside so we can go inside. Once we were sitting down in the living room, I glanced at Kihyun before looking back to the victim's wife.

"Mrs. Ji, there is no easy way to say this...but your husband...," I paused as I was rendered speechless by the worried look in her eyes. "...was found dead this morning. I'm sorry," I continued to say.

She looks at us in disbelief before bursting into tears. Kihyun grabbed some tissues from the tissue box on the table and handed it to her. She takes them and dabs at her eyes. "This can't be true. I saw him alive and well a few days ago," she cries.

"A few days ago? You weren't worried that he hadn't come home since then," Kihyun asks.

"He told me that he was going on a trip with the boys and wouldn't be back until Sunday," she says through tears.

"Who are these 'boys,'" I asked.

"They are his friends from high school and college," she replies.

"How would you describe their friendship? Was there any bad blood between your husband and any of his friends," Kihyun asks.

"No, they love Hyungyeol. They wouldn't harm him at all," she says after sniffling for a few seconds.

"Then, can you think of anyone who would want to harm your husband," I asked.

"I- no- I- can we have this conversation later? I just can't right now," she pleads.

"Of course. Of course. We will come by again later. If you need anything or think of someone, please give me a call," I said and then took out one of my business cards from my wallet before handing it over to her.
