~the day of sentencing~
"All rise! Court is in session! The Honorable Judge Shim Changmin is now presiding," the bailiff announces. Everyone stood up and seat down when the judge told us to. The judge clears his throat before beginning to talk.
"Good afternoon. Today, we are here to decide the sentencing in the court case: the People of The Republic of South Korea vs Han Seo Hee, the leader of the Silver Roses. Let's start with the pre-sentence report from the probation office. Can the court clerk please read it out loud," Changmin says.
The court clerk reads it out loud but I didn't really care to listen to what the report had to say. All I cared about was the sentencing. As the prosecutor and defense attorney took their turn to give their final arguments. Seo Hee still claims that she is not guilty, which absolutely made my blood boil.
"Ow," someone says next to me, which caught my attention. I then realized that I had squeezed Hyunwoo's hand too tight and instantly let go of his hand.
"Oh my god. I'm sorry. Does it hurt," I asked in a hushed tone. He shakes his head and gives me a reassuring smile before taking my hand back into his. I returned his smile before continuing to watch the trial.
"And, the jury's decision is," Changmin asks after both sides gave their final arguments.
The juror closest to the judge stands up and says, "The jury finds Han Seo Hee...guilty on all charges."
"Very well. The court sentences Han Seo Hee to 55 years to life and with no chances of probation," Changmin says before taking the gavel and banging it onto the table.
~that night~
~at a bar near Hangang ~
"Cheers," the Captain shouts. The others loudly returned the gesture before drinking with the captain. I half-heartedly did so too before downing an entire bottle of soju not caring about the burn that comes with it.
I silently watched the others get drunk for a while before grabbing a new bottle of soju and heading out the side door of the bar. I walked to the riverside and sat down. I then poured a line of soju in front of me as an offering to my parents. "Eomma...Appa...I haven't talked you guys in a while. I'm sorry. I'm not filial," I paused.
"I did it. I made it happen. I got the person who did this to you two...to us," I said as I felt something wet hit my hands. I looked down to see that I was crying without realizing it.
"Aish," I said as I roughly wiped away the trails that the tears have left on my cheeks. "I should be happy but I don't know why I am not... Isn't it funny? All these years I have been so focused on making them pay for their crimes...Now that it is done, I can't help but feel...lost," I said after drinking some soju.
I bent my legs at the knee and leaned forward before crossing my arms on top of my knees and resting my chin in the middle. "I miss you guys so much," I whispered. Just as I finished that sentence, I heard someone sit down next to me. I looked to my left and saw Hyunwoo looking back at me.
He gives me a small smile before wrapping his right arm around my shoulders and pulling me closer. I hastily wiped my face clean of tears as I don't like it when people see me cry. We just sat there not saying a word for several minutes.
"You did well, Kihyun," Hyunwoo says with a smile as he takes my hand into his and interlaced our fingers.
The End
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To my readers and fellow Monbebes,
Oh my goddess! 'Law and Love' has finally come to a close. Thank you all so much for reading and supporting this book until the end, for making this book my second most popular work, and for supporting me as an author. Thank you especially to those of you who have read this book since I first started it on October 27, 2018. I never expected it to come so far and I am amazed that it has been almost two years since I started this book too. You guys have no idea how happy I am that so many people actually enjoy the books that I write. This book was originally not going to be heavily focused on their relationship. It was supposed to focus more on the plot/characters' backstories. So, I hope that I did that well and that this ending was not bad. As a special gift to you all, I included an epilogue to close off this book. Anyhow, I hope that this book was quite enjoyable and let us meet again in another one of my work.
Sincerely,
AsSoftAsYoongi
