"Hey, it's great that you could make it!" I smiled as I opened the door of my boyfriend and I's apartment and let my best friend in.
"Of course!" She smiled and hugged me. We sat down at the table with the others and started eating. Shawn and I decided to spend new years at our place with some friends this year. We talked and laughed along until my best friend leaned over to me.
"Hey, Y/f/n just asked me if she could come over, her other friends can't make it and she doesn't want to stay home alone." I bit my lip for a second before I slowly nodded.
"Mhm, yeah, of course." She smiled and immediately texted her back before we continued eating. Shawn was talking about sports with his friends right now and was completely into their conversation. A few minutes later the doorbell rang and before I could get it my best friend already sprung up.
"That's Y/f/n, I'll go get it" Just seconds later I heard them laughing and greeting each other excitedly. I smiled as they came back and hugged my friend before we sat down again. They immediately started a conversation about something and I couldn't help but felt left out.
I listened to them talking but soon faded away and stared down at my food. I finished my plate and my friends were still talking happily, not even looking at me.
Suddenly I felt a pair of eyes on me and looked up, staring directly into Shawn's eyes. He frowned at me so I forced a smile on my face, telling him everything was okay. He didn't seem convinced but brushed it off, turning to the boys again. I sighed and sipped at my drink.
After we all were done eating we cleaned the table and everyone went to the living room. I excused myself, saying I had to go to the bathroom. On the way back I came across the door to the balcony. I opened it and stepped out into the cold night. I took a deep breath as I looked around the city. I didn't even notice the lonely tear that slipped out of my eye and rolled down my cheek.
"What are you doing out here?" I heard Shawn ask.
"Uhh, I, um, I just needed some fresh air." I cleared my throat and looked at him.
"Okay. I- Wait are you crying?" He immediately was by my side and looked at me.
"Babe what's wrong?"
"It's stupid." I tried to laugh but it just came out a weird sound and seconds later I couldn't hold the tears back.
"I just feel so left out. I mean, I knew this was gonna happen if I said yes to Y/f/n coming but I didn't want to be the bad one that doesn't want her here. I mean, we're good friends but every time it's us three girls it's always me who's left out."
"Oh baby, come here." I walked into Shawn's arms and hold onto him.
"I'm so sorry! I don't want you to feel like this. Maybe you could talk to them?"
"Maybe, but I don't want to start a fight or spread negativity right now." Shawn sighed but didn't say anything, just nodded and hugged me tighter.
"It's almost midnight, just a few more seconds!" I heard our friends yell from inside. A few moments later the first fireworks illuminated the sky.
"Wohoooo!" Our friends cheered inside and Shawn quickly glanced at his phone before he smiled at me.
"Well, happy new year baby!" I laughed and kissed him.
"Happy new year! I love you, I can't wait for whatever the new year holds for us!"
"I love you more!" He kissed me again before I turned in his arms to look at the fireworks. I leaned back into Shawn's chest as he held me close and I just forgot everything that had happened this evening. Shawn layed his head onto my head and pulled his arms even tighter around me and I just smiled. I couldn't wait for the new year to start!
Happy new year everyone!! ❤️🎉🥂
I hope 2019 will be better than the last year!
Sad story but this actually happened to me tonight with my friends... Hope you had a better new years eve than I did. 😌
