Hi everyone. Yesterday I was at youth group and we started a new series called Not A Fan. It sounds a little bit odd but it is such a great study topic. It's about becoming a Follower of Jesus instead of just a Fan of Jesus. A fan of Jesus is someone who comes to church every Sunday and is all in, but when they go into everyday life they don't want God to interfere with their lives. They don't live what they are taught. A follower is someone who is willing to do anything for Jesus. They are the ones living out the Christian life all day everyday. They are relying on Jesus in the good and the bad. They are devoted and are willing to speak up for Jesus. They live what they preach.
This got me thinking. Am I a fan or a follower. Will I do anything for Jesus. Do I make him the center of my life? Is he TOP priority? I thought about these questions for most of the night. To tell the truth, in the past two years, I have been back and forth between being a fan and a follower. I've had Jesus at the center of my life when everything is good about 90% of the time and when life is rough, I neglect him almost 80% of the time. It's a constant battle between full trust and partial trust. God is supposed to have my trust 100% of the time. Even through the rough times, I should trust him and be a follower. This is a huge struggle for me and my goal for this next year is to become a follower 100% of the time.
I want to challenge all of you to become a follower instead of a fan. Don't just cheer for Jesus on the weekends then hope he won't interfere with your life the rest of the time. It's time to go all in for Jesus.
"Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me." Mathew 16:24
