Today was a good day. It was freezing, you had a rough time at work and your boss was an ass as usual. BUT ... it was your birthday. And you would see your boyfriend. You've never really been one for a huge party but just the thought of spending the evening and night with him and his family was everything.
Your boyfriend waited for you outside the secret lair entrance. He had a huge smile on his face and a little box in his hand. You sighed. You didn't want a present. You knew how hard it would before him to get one in the first place. Plus you didn't want him to spend money on you.
"Happy Birthday my love", he said and kissed you.
"Thank you", you replied after you pulled away.
You eyed the box in his hands and then looked back at him.
"Sorry", he shrugged, "I just HAD to buy something for you okay. It's not much, but still."
"The fact that you're here to celebrate with me is all I need", you smiled and actually meant it.
You opened the box and found a little necklace with your initial inside. It was golden with a little rhinestone next to it - in his color.
"It's ... it's so beautiful", you said with tears in your eyes.
"You like it?", he asked a little surprised.
"Of course. Thank you!"
You jumped into his arms and he twirled you around a little. He then gently put you down on your feet again, kissed your forehead and smiled.
"Let's go inside. It's way too cold!"
Perks of being a cold blooded animal: your place is always warm. Yes, it was the sewers and you still weren't used to the smell but at least it was warm. And the lair itself didn't smell as bad. It smelled like sweat, old junk found on the street, some incenses and food. Today it smelled a bi sweeter like ...
"A cake?", you asked and took another deep breathe.
"Maybe", he smiled.
You walked into the living room when everyone shouted "SURPRISE". The whole family was there including April and Casey. There was a banner with "HAPPY BIRTHDAY Y/N" that looked a lot like one of the boys did it.
"You guys are crazy", you shouted.
You hugged everyone, thanked them for the gifts and smiled. Of course you were excited but as soon as everyone started to chant happy birthday you didn't know what to do. Your boyfriend pulled you away after a while only to kiss you once more. Your head was laying against this plastron, you heard his heartbeat and felt save.
"Do you still want to party or do you want to go to my room?", he asked.
He knew you were tired. It was a long day after all.
"I can't just leave my own party", you giggled.
"Of course you can. I might have another surprise for you", he gave back.
You looked up and saw him giving you a cocky grin.
"Oh is that so?", you wondered.
"Only one way to find out", he said and kissed your forehead.
