Leo himself is rather interested in the Japanese culture. He's been fascinated by all of it ever since Splinter told them about ninjitsu. He also prides himself in his bonsai collection - his are the cleanest and most beautiful ones. (Not that the other brothers don't care but they have other things to do than watering and cleaning tiny, little trees).
Would he fall for you just because you love Japan? Not really. He'd fall in love with you because ... of you. The fact that you love Japan as much as he does and are even learning the language is just a bonus point to him. You had something in common and he was so happy about that. You'd often find yourself talking to him for hours, having a cup of tea, dreaming about visiting Japan and its beautiful parks. His brothers would be slightly annoyed at it (also because you somehow drew Splinter in as well and the three of you just kept on talking and dreaming) but deep down they loved how Leo was slowly letting loose and opening up.
