If you wouldn't have told them they probably would have never noticed. Yes, some damage to the cornea can have visible effect but sometimes you only see them if you look closely. And you can beg your butt if you were his crush he would never ever get close to you enough to stare into your eyes. Too awkward, too close, too ... you. They'd be scared to embarrass themselves or to make you feel uncomfortable.
If you're okay with it, tell them your story. How it happened, when it was, who did it. They would listen and yes, feel sorry for you. Not in a mean or bad way, they just don't know what else to say. What do you say in such a situation? "Oh I'm so sorry, good luck"? No. If you're not okay with sharing your story at least tell them that someone physically hurt you and that you weren't born with it. It's always better to speak the truth (and leave out some details if you're uncomfortable) and straight up lie.
