as we know it

It slips. Cassie doesn't exactly mean for it. I mean she does and she's not exactly sure about this whole declaration of love she just spoke "slipped," but somehow it did and she can't take it back. It sort of just came forth like word vomit, like in Mean Girls, she watches too much Mean Girls. She just can't contain in her being anymore. She doesn't know why, but it slips. Alex stays silent. Just standing there not sure of what to say, to do. He has this neutral look on his face like there is no emotion running through his mind at the moment.

Suddenly, George walks pass them in a hurry bring her out of the haze of just her and Alex. "What's going on?" Alex asks George and Izzie now standing at the counter of the Nurses' Station.

George looks at the Chief who was receiving news from someone. "Something happened in OR 3," George answers. "I don't know. All I know is that Hannah, the paramedic, she's missing." The Chief walks out from using the phone and pass them, "Chief?" George uttered, "What's happened?"

The Chief continues walking and responds, "A quiet board. A quiet board is what's happened." Soon, they get word that Meredith's hand is in with the bomb. How stupid is she? Sure, she might die soon and Cassie feels bad for that, but how dumb is she to stick her hand in there with a bomb.

The group turn back around and then discuss the idea of going back to the locker room. On their way there Izzie turns to her and asks her, "You okay? You look like your going to vomit." Cassie just nods, she had not vomited, more so word vomited. Nonetheless, they both felt just as worse.

They reach the locker room and sat down on the floor leaning against the lockers. "I feel like colors are brighter," George states staring at the overhead lights. "Does anyone feel like colors are brighter? My head hurts."

Alex looks tired, not that Cassie could even look at him, "It the adrenaline. Do you have the smell thing? 'Cause I have like this crazy--"

"Shut up!" Izzie yells Cassie couldn't help, but just laugh at how shocked George and Alex looks at Izzie's abruptness.

Alex tilted his head to the left, "Are you okay?"

Cassie wasn't sure if that was directed towards her or Izzie, she figures Izzie because her giggles were soft and weren't noticeably loud enough for anybody, but Izzie. George quickly answers before Cassie could even ask, not that she was going to, "Of course she's not okay. How could she possibly be okay? You're insensitive."

Cassie laughs grew louder as Alex and George started arguing. "I'm not insensitive."

Izzie yells again, "Would you two just shut up? Nobody cares if the blue is bluer or if you have super smelling powers. Meredith could die. Any minute she could just...die. Actually, stop living. Dead. A corpse."

Cassie just burst out laughing at that, "How dumb is she?" Her words were almost inaudible with how loud she was laughing. "She sticks her hand in with--" Cassie did a motion of what she thought a hand going into a body cavity would look like, it probably wasn't that good. She interrupts herself with how loud she's laughing, "She sticks her hand in with a-a friggin' bomb. A-friggin' bomb!" She doubles over in laughter.

Izzie soon starts giggling with her, "I have really inappropriate reactions to this kind of stress. Sorry." Cassie snorts which causes Izzie to laugh even harder. "I'm sorry," Izzie repeats before standing up and walking out of the locker room. Alex follows her, which causes Cassie to stop laughing.

George sits, leaned against a locker about two feet away from Cassie, "You okay?" Cassie stays silent, "You told him didn't you? Alex."

She began to laugh again, "Meredith has her hand in a body with a bomb, and I'm-I'm upset that I told a boy I loved him and he didn't say anything back." Her laughter goes louder, "Like, like, like, I'm a terrible person.

George reassures her, "You're not a terrible person."

"I'm a terrible person." She repeats.

"No, you are not, Cassie," George tells her, "okay and Meredith is not going to die and it's fine that it's not your main concern, but you just, you just need to calm down and stop laugh--" Cassie laughs louder as George joins in with her. "Stop." He laughs louder. "You're-you're gonna be okay." His laughter grows before falling flat as does Cassie's. "You're going to be okay. We're all going to be okay."

_

The rest of the day Cassie remains in the locker room only leaving for the bathroom. Alex walked into the locker room, Cassie doesn't look up though. "You said it." He says. He sits next to her head against one of the bottom lockers. She nods. He doesn't say anything. She doesn't say anything. She said it. He didn't. So, they sit next to each other still not saying a word to one another. Just thinking. Cassie isn't sure what she's supposed to think, she doesn't think Alex knows what to say either. So, they just sit in silence.
