blues for sister someone

It's hard to realize that Cassie and Izzie have grown apart. It's hard for either them to notice. They both do though. They still talk, but it's not like when they use to stay up nights gushing about the surgeries the got to do the day before and the wacko patients they met. Plus, Izzie hasn't made her cupcakes in months, something she use to bake every week. Luckily, throughout this whole period of time, no confrontation had occurred. Also since Izzie's break-up with Alex a week or so ago (she's kind of losing track of dates) some guilt has been washed off her and Cassie doesn't feel as nervous around her as she once did. They hadn't worked together on a patient since the separation had happened and it was going well. Until they were both assigned to Dr. Shepherd's service. Specifically, Gwen Graber. A woman having seizures and Dr. Shepherd had no clue what part of the brain they were coming from.

Izzie and Cassie followed behind Dr. Shepherd into Ms. Graber room. Cassie clutched the chart in her left hand as Dr. Shepherd greeted, "Good morning, Ms. Graber."

The woman, who was typing at her computer, turned her head towards the doctor. "Oh really, 'good morning,'" she retorted, "you haven't let me sleep in three nights. And this ridiculous hat is destroying my self-esteem," she pointed to the brain mapping "hat" she had over her head, "and I still haven't had a seizure. But, okay, sure. We'll go with 'good morning' if it makes you feel better about yourself." Cassie giggled at the woman's frustration towards Dr. Shepherd.

Dr. Shepherd smiled at Ms. Graber's humor before he turned to Izzie, "Ms. Graber is here for brain mapping. Dr. Stevens?"

Izzie took a breath, "Brain mapping—it's where you locate the area of the brain where the seizures originate and surgically remove it with minimal damage to the surrounding tissue."

Dr. Shepherd complimented, "Excellent."

Ms. Graber retorted again, "Excellent, except for the fact that it's not working and I am losing billable hours. Unless any of you are looking to get out of bad marriage." Cassie turned away from the direction of the patient to let out a giggle before turning back and looking a Dr. Shepherd, in process of stifling her laugh.

"No." Izzie and Cassie said.

Gwen turned towards the neurosurgeon, "Dr. Shepherd?"

Dr. Shepherd turned away from the monitor, "Yes. No. I'm fine, thank you."

"Really?" She questioned, "'cause I'm an excellent divorce attorney."

"I'm sure you are." He assured.

Ms. Graber pushed her glasses up from where the sat further down her nose, "And there was a look, you know, between these two." Her eyes drifted to Cassie and Izzie.

Dr. Shepherd turned, scowling, "A look?"

"No." Both Izzie and Cassie poorly insisted.

Gwen's eyes looked back at Dr. Shepherd, "What is it, married young and now you have nothing in common?" Before Dr. Shepherd could answer, "Oh, no, don't tell me. I know. The conversation is still good, but the sex has gone to pot?"
