time has come today

It's been hours. It's been enough time for Cassie to go to bed and wake up and Izzie has still locked herself in her room. Alex had returned from God knows wherever he sleeps and Cristina from the hospital where she spent the night with Burke and now joined Cassie, Meredith, and George. The five of them stood outside Izzie's door waiting for her to open it up, which they knew she wouldn't.

George sighed, "Okay, she's been in there all night. We have to do something." They all agreed and turned their heads towards Meredith.

"Why are you all looking at me?" Meredith questioned.

Cristina replied, "Well, this is familiar territory for you."

"There is nothing familiar about this. Unfamiliar. Denny died. The man she loves died." Meredith harshly whispered back.

"Yeah, but you're all dark and twisty inside," Cristina said.

"'Dark and twisty'?" She scowled.

Cristina then explained, "The mother with the Alzheimer's thing and the father you don't talk to."

"And the tequila thing and the inappropriate men thing," Alex added.

Cassie rolled her eyes, whispering to him, "Like you're one to talk."

"Do you see me with any men?" He whispered back. She stifled a giggle.

George told them, "Someone has to go in there." The silence filled the air, George threw his hands up, "Fine. I'll go."

Cassie stayed home with Cristina and Meredith, Izzie stayed up in her room. They sat in the kitchen making food. Cassie went up to change into regular clothes, which means she went from shorts to pants pretty much. When she entered back into the kitchen she heard Cristina utter, "You had sex with Derek in an exam room at the prom?"

"You had sex with Derek in an exam room?" Cassie exclaimed.

Cristina whipped her head around to face Cassie, whereas Meredith just kept hers laid down on her arms. "Yes." She answered.

"Ew. In what exam room? Remind me never to go in there again." Cassie said as she walked towards the fridge and grabbed a blueberry yogurt.

Meredith lifted her head explaining, "You know they clean them, right?"

The blonde opened the drawer to grab a spoon before closing it and sitting down across from Meredith. "I know. I just don't want all your sex follicles in the air."

"Sex follicles?" Cristina questioned.

"Whatever." She told Cristina off, "You had sex with McDreamy last night?"

"Yes." She sighed laying her head back down on the table.

The doorbell rang and Meredith got up to answer it. "I'm gonna go see Izzie," Cristina told her.

Meredith returned back with Callie carrying two bags of food. "Ooh, whatcha got?"

"Food for, uh, shiva, I guess," Callie answered.

Cassie's eyebrows cross, "Is it shiva if she's Catholic?"

Callie laughed, "That's what I said."

Cassie sighed as she spotted Cristina come down the stairs, "I'm gonna go see Izzie."

Cassie laid down on the floor next to Izzie. She took a deep breath, "My brother died of a brain aneurysm when I was sixteen." She stared up at the ceiling.

"I'm sorry." Izzie blankly said.

Cassie brushed her hair to the side which was fanned out around her. "It's why I became a doctor. A surgeon. He wanted to be one. My parents thought of him like he had cured cancer or something. He was the golden child and my sister nearly died when she was born. I was the...middle child. The black sheep. Then, he died and I was the..." her eyes filled with tears, "I don't know. He was my best friend." She turned over on her side to face Izzie, "And—and I know that's nothing compared to fiancé, but, Iz. I'm sorry." She rubbed the girl's shoulder. "I'm sorry that you'd ever had to experience that quick, unexpected goodbye. I'm...sorry."

"Cas," Izzie muttered. She sat up and Cassie quickly joined her though confused by the fact she actually got up. Cassie stood up, Izzie grabbed her hand standing up beside her. "I'm ready."

"Okay."

Cassie was folding her laundry when Alex entered the room. "Hey. How was your day?"

Alex sighed, "I was with Addison on a baby in the trash can."

"A baby?" Cassie questioned. Alex nodded. "In a trash can?" He nodded again. "What?"

"Yeah. He is gonna have a rough childhood. His mom is 14, going to juvie and the grandparents didn't even know their daughter was pregnant. Geez, imagine." He told her.

Cassie focused on figuring out which sock went with which. "Talk about not being wanted." She sighed, "And what are these kids doing? When I was 14 I was still playing with Barbies."

"You were still playing with Barbies at 14?" Alex questioned leaning against the wall, folding his arms on to his chest.

"I eventually grew out of it." She folded the last shirt in the dryer. "At least, I wasn't getting pregnant."

He took a deep breath, "You have a point."
