staring in the sun

Cassie finds out George's dad was admitted when George wasn't home before midnight and he wasn't on call that night. She ended up calling him and finding out how he had passed out, hit the floor and injured his clavicle. Clavicle aside, George's dad seems to be fine. Meredith, however, seems to be doing really fine proudly announcing that the dark & twisty was all gone from her system. It's definitely Derek too since she saw him enter the house last night. No hanky panky though (Cassie would know, Meredith, really loud).

Bailey assigned George to scut, obviously, since he'd probably regain the title of "007" with his mind being on his father. Cristina is, of course, on surgery with Burke because what else is new. Cassie might consider sleeping with an attending. She's talked to Alex about and he said it was okay as long as she got a surgery out of it.

Izzie's continuing her shadowing on Alex, Alex on Sloan, Meredith in the pit. Cassie with Bailey and Callie on George's father. She's glad she's near George during this time, she knows how worried he is for his father.

"Looks like you've got a full house, Mr. O'Malley," Bailey commented as the two walked into the room joining the O'Malley clan and Callie.

He replied with a wide smile, "Just waiting on the wife. She's in DC, uh, chaperoning a field trip."

"Yeah, she's coming in today." One of George's brothers replied, either Ronny or Jerry, she doesn't know which one is which.

Callie then spoke about his injury, "His clavicle's still hurting, so I added p.r.n. morphine every four hours."

Bailey looked over his chart, which George had been occupying all night, "And I've scheduled you endoscopy for this afternoon."

"An endo-what?" Ronny or Jerry questioned.

"Scope," Cassie answered.

She opened her mouth to explain more, but was then interrupted by George, "That's like—like a camera."

The brother asked again, "That sounds dangerous. Is that dangerous?"

George replied again in an effort to comfort, "No, it's not dangerous."

His brother then mouthed him off,  "Okay, I didn't ask you. I asked the doctor." Cassie knew that George's brothers always looked down at him. He didn't have the same interests as him or his father and always felt like the odd man out. This was proof of that.

The other brother then joined in, "Yeah, let the doctor speak, Georgie."

George held his arm out, "White coat. Let's look at the white coat." Gesturing at his sleeves then a series of bickering before Bailey said O'Malley and every O'Malley in the room answered. This is going to be an interesting day, to say the least.

"Why not me?" Cassie followed George as he continued to walk away from her.

George turned around, "What?"

She stopped right in front of him before running into him. "Why didn't you pick me for the endoscopy?" He stayed silent, just staring at her. "You picked Cristina."

"I know." He said quietly staring at the floor.

She placed her hands on her hips, "So, what? You don't want me on her dad's case?"

His eyes darted in three directions before looking at her. "Look," he paused, "Cristina is..." he trailed off, "It's an endoscopy it's nothing huge. I just...Cristina, uh," she stared at him waiting for an answer.

"Whatever." She threw her hands up in the air turning around.

"Cassie. Come on. Cassie."

She knows she's emotional, but she thought that she was hardcore enough to actually do an endoscopy. It's not like she's would be doing it, Dr. Webber would be. Whatever.

Lunch is the best time of her day because who doesn't like a break to stuff your face full of food. She took a seat next to Alex, the bed next to George. Normal she would just sit next to George but she's trying to prove a point or something.

"Cassie." George groaned. "Look—"

Cassie plugged her ears, "I can't hear you."

"What are you four?" George insulted.

Cassie placed an overly shocked look upon her face. "That is so rude, Georgie." George rolled his eyes, "I thought you were supposed to be the O'Malley with the best behavior. Maybe that should go to Jerry."

His eyes bulged, "Jerry!"

"What is going on with you two?" Izzie questioned.

"Nothing!" They both yelled. There was silence for a few seconds before Cassie asked, "So, what's going on?"

Alex took a bite of his chips, "Yang decannulated a heart." Cassie's mouth popped open because not only did she steal an endoscopy from Cassie, but she had also decannulated a heart earlier that morning, "Why is Alex not surprised?"

Cassie turned her head in confusion as this whole "talking-about-yourself-in-the-third-person" continued. "Izzie isn't either. Last week, Izzie was digging through crap. This week, she's fondling man-boobs. No decannulating hearts for Izzie."

Cassie scowled her eyebrows, puzzled at the two's exchange, "Are you guys on drugs?"

George was focused on something else, "We aren't you bragging about deccanulating a heart?"

Cristina looked up from the paper she was writing on, "I didn't decanulate a heart." Cassie thought about it because though she wasn't happy with George right now, she knows he's truthful. Though, Cristina would be bragging all day and night.

"Izzie and Alex do not believe you," Izzie stated.

Cassie raised her eyebrows shaking her head, "What is this whole act?"

Izzie laughed, about to eat a cracker, "Izzie and Alex have a patient who speaks about himself in the third person."

"Thay thought it was annoying at first, but now they kind of like it," Alex explained more.

"Oh," Cassie intaking it all, "that's nice. When is it going to stop because it's giving Cassie a headache?"

Meredith and Cristina did slight bickering about whether Meredith was still "bright and shiny" or back to the "dark and twistys." Izzie and Alex continued this whole third-person thing and Cassie is going to kill herself if it continues.

Cassie hears about George's dad from Izzie. When she sees him in the hall she doesn't say much, in fact she doesn't say anything. Neither do. She just hugs him because even if he didn't give her the stupid endoscopy, he's been with her when no one was, no matter what. So, she'll be with him, no matter what.
