crash into me: part one

"What is that noise?" Cassie moaned, rolling around on her mattress. She grunted before finally willing herself to up her eyes. She moves her feet to the side of the bed, pushing down on her feet and actually getting out of bed. Of course, her eyes were still closed and she somehow found her way out into the hall without running into her dresser. She walks to the end of the hall where George lay and Izzie stands in George's former (well, no longer former because—she thinks—he moved back in, well, who knows, he's very confusing lately) room. "What is that noise?" She repeats, rubbing her eyes open.

Izzie rolls her eyes, "Meredith and Cristina's dance party." She quickly rushes out of the room, down the stairs.

Cassie, now awake, furrows her brows, "What's her issue? And why are you in a sleeping bag?"

George explained, "She's upset about Meredith and Cristina's friendship and I'm in a sleeping bag because I'm no longer sleeping with Izzie."

"Oh, that's officially over?" She joked.

"It's what I told you." He clarified.

"Well, I didn't know. I'm used to people saying that and then jumping back into bed."

"I'm not Meredith."

"Oh, but you did that with Meredith."

He picked up his pillow and threw it. "Shut up!"

Cassie traveled down the stairs of her house to grab her morning cup of coffee, greeted yet again by an angry Izzie. The music coming from Meredith's room still booming through the floor. "You alright?" The blonde asked noticing her scowl.

Izzie groaned in response, "I'm just so sick of Meredith and Cristina being—"

"What?" Cassie raised her eyebrows in question. "Friends?" Izzie rolled her eyes, turning her back to the blonde. "Look, Iz, you can't be mad at them for being friends. Don't be that one friend who's jealous because their friends have other friends."

"I'm not!" She exclaimed.

Cassie looked sincerely at her friend, "Is this about George?"

Izzie rolled her eyes again, "I'll see you at work." She grabbed her bag and coat exiting the kitchen and towards the door.

"Izzie!" She turned in her chair and shouted at Izzie as the door slammed. "Well, that answers my question."

"Okay, ladies and gentlemen, this is Nick Hanscomb." Dr. Sloan introduced as he stood next to the patient named Nick who said a quick hi. "Nick was lucky enough to have me remove a large carotid body tumor from his neck." He slowly pulled the bandage off revealing the scar on Nick's neck. "The fact that I was able to get clean boundaries is pretty darn impressive, even for me."

"Congratulations!" Alex called out.

Cassie chuckled, she turned to George who was standing next to her. "Alex just cracks me up sometimes."

"Even though, you hate him," George commented.

The blonde smiled, "Only slightly. So, what exactly is your relationship with Izzie now?"

"We're back to being friends, it's better for us." He told her, eyes still focused on Mark and Nick.

Her eyes left the patient and looked over at George, "Really?" His eyes moved over to meet hers. "Could have fooled me." Her gaze moved back to Nick, placing her hands in her white coat's pockets.

"Why you say that?" His eyes going back to the patient as well.

"Izzie was beyond piss this morning about Cristina and Meredith. I mean, nothing out of the ordinary. I feel like she's always pissed about them, but now more than usual, I think." She thought to herself for a second. "I take that back, I don't think, I know. Izzie is very obvious when she's pissed off and I'd say she's more than pissed off and it probably has something to do with you."

"You paged me?" Cassie walked into the MRI room, wondering aloud. "Oh, tumor!" She exclaimed after peeking at the scans.

Dr. Shepherd hesitated before answering, "Uh, yeah, Dr. Scott. You're on my service."

"I am?" She furrowed her brows. "Why didn't anybody tell me? I've been wandering around looking for Bailey for a half-hour."

Derek and George, sitting next to the brain surgeon, simply staring at her. "She's probably busy in the ER. Two ambulances crashed. This is one—"

Cassie's mouth dropped open, "What?!"

"Uh," George stuttered, "yeah. This is one of the paramedics."

The resident bent down to take a closer look that the scans, "And the crash caused the tumor?" She stood up straight realizing what she said. "Wait, well, you know what I meant."

Dr. Shepherd stood up from his chair, "Let's just inform the patient."

She nodded, placing her hand in her white coat's pocket, and following behind him. "Uh, yeah, that's what I meant."

"Yeah, you're doing great, Cassie," George whispered while walking past her.

"Shut up!"

They pulled her out of the MRI machine, the orderly taking her back to a patient room. Dr. Shepherd explaining the circumstances and the surgical options to the patient.

"You're gonna drill into my skull?" The paramedic, Mary, questioned.

Dr. Shepherd turned towards her, "Scott?"

"We're going to do a cookie-cutter craniotomy. Pretty much, Dr. Shepherd is going to drill a very, very small hole, and then with a computer, he will guide a scope through her brain to cut the tumor out. It's as minimally invasive as it gets." She explained.

"I just—it's weird to be on the other side of all this. How are Stan and Ray...and Shane?" She asked. "Oh, my god, how did this happen?" She muttered, before suddenly convulsing.

Dr. Shepherd announced, "She's seizing."

"Shepherd," Bailey called out from down the hall. "I need O'Malley."

"We're about to go into surgery," Shepherd told her.

Bailey then stated, "I need O'Malley." The two went back and forth about crossing Dr. Bailey or something, Cassie was just really confused. "I have to operate on a white supremacist," Cassie's eyes bugged out, "and he has requested a white doctor and I'm sure he would have an issue with a woman, so Scott's out. Now I need O'Malley. Can I have him or not?"

Dr. Shepherd processed the information before sighing, "Yes, Dr. O'Malley go with Dr. Bailey." Cassie weaved her way past Dr. Shepherd making his way to the scrub room for Mary's surgery. Her eyes taking notice of Derek's interactions with Rose, the scrub nurse."

"Mhm, interesting."
