crash into me: part two

"Okay, so, what exactly are we supposed to do?" Cassie asked Derek.

Derek slightly moved his head, "I don't know."

"So, we're—well, you—are in a man's brain with the scope in it, but we can't see because the monitor is broken?" Cassie questioned, trying to calm her nerves.

He rolled his eyes, "Uh, yeah!"

"Just making sure I didn't make that one up, you know," she pointed to her temple, "up in my head."

The OR awaited scrub nurse, Rose's return from the OR phone. Finally, she hung it up informing everyone, "Their local tech is in Spokane."

"That's five hours away. Did you tell them I was in the middle of someone's brain?" Derek asked her.

She nodded, "Yes, the tech is still in Spokane."

"Well, this is a doozy." Cassie joked gaining a look from Dr. Shepherd.

He then asked her, "Scott?"

"Yes?" She queried.

"Go to the nurses' station and tell them to call any tech to the OR 2," Derek ordered her. She nodded. "Now!"

She nodded quicker, "Uh, yes, yep, I'm going." Cassie ran down the hallway, running into the nurses' station, "Um, hi. Can you page any tech to OR 2, like now?! Please."

And she waited, waited, and waited.

"Nobody came." She stated as the doors to the OR opened. The nurses draped her again, "I waited and nobody came, but they'll come here if they can I asked the nurse to make sure they did that."

Derek nodded, "Rose?"

"What's going on?" Cassie asked as her eyes moved from Dr. Shepherd to Nurse Rose.

"You're going to hold the scope—"

"Wait, I'm going to hold?" She questioned.

Derek looked her in the eye, "Yes, Dr. Scott." He nodded. "You're going to hold it while I help Rose with the machine's wires."

The blonde's eyes widened and she shook her head quickly taking hold of the scope as Dr. Shepherd made his way over to Rose.

And she waited and waited and waited some more until clapping began pulling her out of her daydream (still, keeping the scope surprisingly steady). The machine's screen appeared, Derek returned to her side, "Dr. Scott?"

"Yes?" Curiously asked.

"The scope," Derek answered.

She giggled. "Oh."

"So, you and Rose?" Cassie asked him as they rounded a corner.

"What?" His head quickly turned, his face showing confusion.

"Derek. I'm not dumb. I just saw you pretty much make out with her in the scrub room. Is that like something you like to do?" She joked.

The two continued walking, "Look, Meredith and me aren't together—"

"I don't really care, you don't have to explain it to me. I was trying to make conversation." Cassie bluntly informed him.

He chuckled, nodding his head, "So, who are you with now? Karev or O'Malley?" He deadpanned.

She tittered, stopping in her tracks, standing in front of him. "George." She giggled. "You think I'm with George. Uh, no." She moved back to his side and resumed their walk to inform Mary's family. "George is with Izzie, or at least was, still kind of confused on that status and Alex is with like the girl with 12 different personalities. Or Meredith's sister, I'm not sure about that either." He nodded as she rambled on. "My days with Alex are done and George is like my best friend if anyone I think I'd go for the geeky new intern, but I'm pretty sure he's in a love triangle or something, not sure about that one either. I—"

"Okay, Scott, I've heard enough. I was just trying to make conversation." Derek told her solemnly.

"Okay, Shepherd." She said in her serious military voice. She raised her hand to salute him. Quickly, breaking the character and giggling.

He slightly smiled at the girl's loudness, before resuming his usual facial expression. "Calm down, Scott."

"I can't help it. I get very talkative after surgery. I used to do it all the time, but not lately. I haven't been in very many interesting surgeries lately. This was fun though and not just because I got to hold the scope while you fixed the machine. I've been holding scopes since my first day, while week—"

"You're very talkative." He reiterated.

"I know. Sorry. I'll shut up now."

"Don't." He corrected. "You're going to inform her family."

"Really? Is this just so you can have a quick session with that scrub nurse or is it Meredith now?" She jokingly inquired.

"I'll see you tomorrow, Scott." He told her.

"Tomorrow?" She squinted, confused.

"Well, you're going to be on my service."

"Really?!" She shrieked, while he nodded. "Usually attendings don't like me." She jumped up and down clapping. "Um, okay." She took a deep breath. "Sorry, I'll calm down. See you tomorrow, Shepherd." She saluted.

He lazily returned to the gesture walking away "See you tomorrow, Scott."

"Um, what is going on here?" The site of dancing beheld in front of her. As usual, Meredith and Cristina, but now with the addition of George and Izzie (very closely, she might add) and Meredith's unknown half-sister, Lexie. God, there are too many "ie" nicknames in this hospital.

Meredith and Cristina continued dancing, while the rest paused. "We're dancing it out," Meredith told her, out of breath.

"Shut up or join us," Cristina told her.

She placed her bag down, "Geez, don't be bitter." She responded. "I'm too hungry, are there still some of your cupcakes left, Iz?"

"Uh, yeah," Izzie replied awkwardly.

Quickly fetching two cupcakes and returning to the dancing group. Meredith taking a break and sitting next to her, sighing, "I'm out of breath. How was your day?"

Cassie took a bite of her cupcakes, "Good, I was with Derek. I know you were that whole ambulance thing. What happened?"

"Um, Ray pulled through, but Stan, he didn't make it," Meredith told her. She just let out a breath in reply. "I told Derek I didn't want him seeing other people." Cassie, of course, started choking on her cupcake. "Are you okay?"

She coughed a few more times, "Uh, yeah," coughs interrupting her, "just too much cupcake." Meredith softly patted her back. "I'm going to bed." She stood up. "Long day today and another one tomorrow." She half-heartedly explained.

"Okay, we'll turn the music down," Meredith said.

Cassie waved her off, "It's fine." A few coughs still escaping her. "Have fun. Goodnight everyone." They shouted back at her while still moving around. She finished up her cupcake as she reached her door. "Good cupcake."
