great expectations

"Making amends. That's what you're supposed to do in these situations right?" Cassie asked George as she paced up in down George's room, nearly tripping over her NYU sweatpants due to its length. Her blonde hair up in a messy bun showing off her shoulders because of the blue camisole she was wearing. "And like I'm trying it's just—"

"Cassie." George stopped her rambling from his place on his bed.

She faced him, "What?" She flung her arms out in an "I don't know" position.

He stood up and pushed her out the room, "Cassie, Callie is coming over. And I feel for you, I do and I hope everything with you and Alex works out, but Cassie..."

"I'm sorry, George. How—how are you feeling about your dad? Do you wanna—" Before she could continue the door slammed in her face. "I'll be in my room if you need any help!" She felt pathetic, useless. Nothing's changed.

The locker door finally opened for Cassie to change into her scrubs. "George has turned into a sex machine," Izzie stated, walking into the locker room.

She pulled her shirt over her head, "Izzie!" She shouted. "He's with Callie." She smiled towards the other blonde.

Izzie rolled her eyes, "Shut up, you know what I mean. He is a machine of sex. We have to do something." The room stayed silent, "What's wrong with you people?"

Meredith explained while lying down on the bench, "Derek kept me up all night with his ranting and Cristina and Burke still aren't talking to each."

Cristina turned away from her locker, "We're fine. I mean, I'm just not gonna be the first one talking. I mean, he has to talk 'cause I'm in the right. Talking first is for losers. I'm a winner."

"You guys must've been so fun for Derek and Meredith to have dinner with." Cassie joked, shutting her locker closed.

Meredith fiddled with her fingers while asking her, "And Cassie and Alex aren't talking for what reason?"

Cassie grabbed a hair clip, pinning it back into a weirdly shaped bun, "We said that." Alex and Cassie made weird contact with one another. She was going to talk to him tonight. Communication is the number one thing in a relationship and she's determined to keep that part of them together.

Izzie then made it about her, which isn't shocking though she had a point with the whole dead fiancé and her surgical career demise. Also, George's dad just died. So, she had a point.

Her feet clicked on the floor to catch up to him. He still walks so damn fast. "Alex," Cassie called after him trying to get him to stop or at least slow down.

When he finally did slow down, they just stared at one another. Some um's and uh's fell from her mouth before Alex asked her, "What?" in an annoyed tone.

"Can we—would you—would." She refocused herself. "Can we talk later? Tonight." Cassie brushed her blonde hair behind her ear.

He readjusted his white coat, "Yeah, yeah. Sure. Joe's?" Alex suggested.

She was expecting it to be a more private but depending on how things go she might need a drink. "Okay. I'll see you when I get off." She begins to walk away, walking backward. "I'll let you know if anything changes." He nods, she turns around walking down the ER to work on her patients. It was a roll of the dice with Alex, either he cheated on her—that was Evil Spawn talking—or it was him telling her he loved her—which was that good side, she doubted that it was that side.

The bell rung as Cassie entered Joe's, Alex seating in the closest barstool to the door. She walked over seating next to him. "What is it, Cassie?" Joe asked. She motioned to him telling him she was good.

"So, you wanted to talk?" He questioned sipping his beer.

She nodded her light hair falling in front of her face. "So, this whole Addison thing?"

Her ears awaited his response, her heart racing for the bad news, until he finally spoke. "Nothing happened. Well, there was some..." he deeply sighed, "look nothing happened between us."

"Okay," she slowly nodded waiting for the other shoe to drop.

"Nothing," Alex swore as he finished his beer.

She leaned her head onto her hand, "It's just—I want to communicate. Communication is number one—"

"Cassie, Cassie." He stopped her. "I know, I know. I promise, can we just forget about this?" He asked of her.

She thought for a second, "Okay." She said softly. "I'm going home." She clutched her jacket's sleeves tighter on her arms and headed for the door. He followed.
