deterioration of the fight or flight
Cassie questions every case she gets a lot. Not the diagnosis or the cure, but how? How did that person end up in this situation? Not like the lost control of their car and that's how they crashed, but how that person lost control in the first place. How did Dr. Burke end up shot, lying lifeless on ambulance bay concrete? He had gone to get a heart, she thinks for Denny Duquette and now he is shot, bleeding out. How did things go from that to this?
How did Cassie and Alex go from hanging out every night to not talking at all?
And it wasn't just the "I love you."

"How bad is it?" The Chief asked Bailey as he met her and Cassie at the doors of the ER.
Bailey explained, "GSW to the right shoulder. He's lost a lot of blood."
They stop the gurney for a second and Cassie stares down at the floor as Dr. Webber tells them, "Get him to trauma one. And keep the blinds closed. Yang is on the floor."
Cassie's head snapped towards Dr. Webber as the gurney went on without her, "Does she—Cristina doesn't know." So, her boyfriend just got shot and she's still working.
The Chief nodded, "Yes, and I'd like to keep it that way for now."
They walked into trauma one together where Dr. Burke kept turning to get up and saying that he is fine. "I have a patient I need to see."
Dr. Bailey pushed him down, "You are the patient here."
He looked around confused, "Dr. Bailey, when did you get here?" Worry flashed upon Cassie's face.
"Page Shepherd."
It wasn't long before Dr. Shepherd busted through the door, only to have Cristina not that far behind him, unknowing though. "You're shot?" She asked Burke. She never thought Cristina Yang could cry and though she isn't this is probably the closest Cassie will ever see of Cristina Yang crying.
"Cristina?" Burke moaned.
The Chief ordered Cristina to get back to her patient, but nonetheless, Cristina stood there, "He's shot?"
Cassie almost felt like crying for Cristina. It was just so sad. She's too sad to think of a better word for sad. "Cristina—"
Bailey interrupted her, "Yang, we got this, okay?"
She turned around, the door still open, "That guy shot you." Before charging towards her patient's, the shooter's, trauma room.
Bailey, Shepherd, Cassie, and the Chief all rolled Burke into his side to check for an exit wound. An exit wound they didn't find. Dr. Shepherd said, "Entry to the upper right shoulder. Could be lodged in the spine." Burke groaned at the news, not that he could process it much due to the painkillers. They rolled him back down onto his back. "Okay, Dr. Burke, the bullet is in dangerous property here, okay? We need to check your hand function."
