Chapter 2: Spotlight Stealer

Ever since David Zhou entered this public high school, he has been feeling a different kind of excitement. All the things in this high school, from the white-walled buildings to the feisty students eyeing him up and down, the air seemed to have electrified him. He wanted to run around and shout to his heart's content, but he can't because he's already late.

Who would have thought that I'd really like it here, David thought. There's something unspeakable, something exciting, something dangerous about this adventure of his in the Philippines.

It was actually his idea to quit his previous school in Shanghai and come to this third-world country. Well, aside from the fact that his wealthy businessman father expanded his business here in the Philippines. But it was his idea to shed his former life and put on a new suit that's sub-par to his affluent life in the past.

He actually came from a very wealthy family. His parents are renowned business figures in China, co-managing a financial investment company which has boomed even more today. And now his dad wanted to spread their company's influence to third-world countries in Southeast Asia. His first stop: the Philippines.

Since arriving in the country, David actually didn't have trouble adjusting to the culture. He knew how to speak Filipino from his Filipina nannies and maids back in China, who also fed him Filipino specialties. Well, aside from the heat of the country, everything's fine.

When he arrived at his classroom, everyone looked at him. He was so late for the first period, though he couldn't care less because it's only the first day of school.

Because he slammed the classroom door, eyes were glued to where he is. The girls blushed when they saw his handsomeness. He couldn't help that. He was born that way.

He ran his fingers on his silky, spiky, black hair as he entered the room. "I'm sitting at the back," he said.

Girls at the back shrieked with joy.

The teacher suddenly stopped him in his tracks. "Hey, you're late for the first day of school, and now you're acting like you own the school? Heck, you didn't even introduce yourself nor apologized for being late." The teacher was clearly offended by his arrogant demeanor.

David sighed and walked back to the front of the class. So this teacher's not my fan, huh?

"I'm David Zhou. I'm a transferee from Shanghai, China." He stopped as he looked at the girls ogling at him. Among the faces at the back seats, one face stood out to him—a boy with a bored face watching him, as if unimpressed.

Look at this rascal. Could be the most handsome student in class, and now he's sulking because I stole his spotlight. He laughed inside his head.

Weirdly enough, David was true. That kid called Eric was sulking because he stole his 5-minute spotlight earlier.

"Pleased to meet you all," David finished his introduction.

"And?!"

David looked at the accusing eyes of the teacher. But he couldn't actually see his eyes because they're hidden by the creepy reflection of light in this teacher's big, squarish eyeglasses. But as soon as he heard his tone of voice, David knew what the teacher meant.

He bowed his head. "I apologize for being late. It won't happen again."

As soon as these words came out of his mouth, the teacher shifted emotions so quickly that one would think of a chameleon changing colors. "Very well," he said sweetly. "Sit down, Zhou."

David started walking towards the empty seat at the back of the boy with the unimpressed face. When David got to him, he looked at him and saw how handsome he is. Well, not as handsome as I am, he arrogantly thought to himself.

When he sat on his seat, the guy's face stuck to his mind. With the guy's back to David, David wanted instead to change seats with the dorky guy beside that cold-faced guy, just so he could always see his face.

He suddenly bit his lips and chastised himself for thinking such thoughts. What the hell are you thinking?! Turning gay now, huh?!

He didn't know what gotten into him for thinking that way. He wanted to punch himself in the face.
