Chapter 40: Don't Ever Take This Path

Weeks after the semestral break started, Eric eventually recovered from his trauma and catatonic states, thanks to David who visited him so often. This caused Marilyn to return back to the cleaning services as things returned back to normal.

David was in his room thinking about Eric when his phone notified him of tons of messages coming from the same girl—Xiaoge. But he didn't even try opening those messages and even turned the Wi-Fi connection off just so he could live in peace. He was certain that messages from her would be the same damn thing—longing messages full of love stickers.

Thankfully, his father was not in the house. He had started being busy with his business operations here in the country, attending seminars and meetings one after the other, attending media interviews, deals, and all those business stuff that David didn't give a shit about.

About time he got busy.

Without the presence of his draconic father in the house, David felt much freer.

Days ago, when Feng had knew about the incident, he scolded David as if to tell him, I told you so, that his school was shit, the teachers were worthless, etcetera etcetera.

"What if it happened to you, ah?" Feng had asked him.

"Well if it happened to me, I would kill him!"

Feng also learned that the victim of the incident was Marilyn's son named Eric, and who was friends with David. The world was indeed, very small.

Despite this, he did not force David to transfer schools, thankfully. Maybe he gave up on forcing things on David, or maybe his mind was occupied by business operations, or maybe he was actually cooking some insidious plan that he would hatch in the future, who knows?

But David was thankful that his father stayed home less and less. Now he could do the things that he wanted without Zhou Feng's interference.

At lunch time, David left the house to visit Eric.

Knocking on the door, David couldn't help feeling excited. When Eric opened the door, David instantly smiled at his precious boy.

"What are you doing here?" Eric asked coldly.

David's smile faltered. Damn, he's back to being cold. He suddenly wished that Eric was vulnerable again so he could reciprocate David's gestures of affection.

David cleared his throat, furrowed his brows, and looked irritatedly at Eric.

"I came to pick you up."

"Pick me... pick me up?"

Eric suddenly noticed David dressed in a smart casual outfit—a red cotton polo shirt and blue jeans.

"Do you remember, I told you I'd treat you to a Chinese restaurant in downtown? Now's that time."

Eric sighed heavily. These past few weeks, being out in public was the thing he wanted the least.

Uninvited, David rashly entered the door and faced Eric. "Come on, get dressed already," he said firmly while clutching at Eric's shirt like a bully would clutch at his victim's collar.

"What if I say no, ha?"

Apparently, Eric was not one to be bullied.

David grabbed Eric's chin. "There's no such thing as no. The only answers are yes or yes."

Look at this guy forcing me to do things, Eric thought. He was about to dissent even more, but his damn stomach grumbled loudly.

David, still grabbing Eric's chin, smirked. "Clearly, someone's too hungry he can't wait to eat the delicious food that I'm gonna feed him." He then laughed evilly like someone who won a contest.
