Chapter 58: Purging the Demon

"Good morning, dear."

It was the most mellow-sounding voice that Eric had ever heard in his whole life. It sounded like warm honey slowly pouring and flowing on a stack of warm, fluffy pancake.

Eric didn't know whether it was real or not, but when he slowly opened his eyes, blinding light filled his blurry vision. A statuesque figure was at the center of that blinding light. When his vision normalized, Eric thought he was seeing the Virgin Mary herself.

"Ma?!"

Eric's mother had a white veil on her head. She smiled faintly, and gazed at Eric with eyes that are too calm.

Eric sat up from his couch and rubbed his eyes. Marilyn kneeled in front of the couch, clad in white gown which made her look like a saint.

"What time is it?" Eric groggily asked.

"It's nearing ten."

"Why are you dressed like that?"

Marilyn merely smiled at him, eyes still serene. She then stood up slowly, then calmly went to her room. Seconds later, she walked out of it with another person which startled Eric.

That person was the priest from the nearby church. He was dressed in a white suit this time. With his help, Marilyn carried the humongous Santo Niño statue from her room and into the center of the living room. It faced Eric, its smooth wooden face shiny under the morning light, its empty eyes staring into Eric's soul. It unnerved him.

"What the—"

The priest calmly walked to the couch and settled his cold, spindly fingers on Eric's shoulder. He smiled eerily before speaking. "I heard you're having nightmares, child."

Eric gulped. In his vision, the area where the priest's eyes should be are hollow and glowing red from the inside, like a skull from hell.

"Yes, Father, my son has been having nightmares these past few days."

"That's why I'm here, child." Father smiled. "I'll make these nightmares go away."

"Please, Father." Marilyn a voice were honey-like still.

Father stood up, then closed his eyes. He then began trembling violently, as if an unseen force was shaking his whole being. It went on for the next ten seconds.

"What is it, Father?!"

Father swayed and trembled some more before finally opening his eyes. His face was sweaty and his facial expression shocked to the core. "This isn't what I expected!"

"What do you mean, Father?"

Father turned to Marilyn. "A very powerful being is residing in the four corners of this house!" He looked around wildly.

Marilyn gasped.

"And that powerful being is no friend to us." Father faced Eric. "Child, you've been harboring an insidious creature in your heart. Right now it has attached itself in your being, and has been whispering in your ears about evil deeds." He paused. "I believe that this being is the same creature that's been tormenting you in your sleep!"

"Father, what should we do?" Marilyn asked.

"Never fear, for we have the Lord. I'm gonna exorcise the demon out of this child!"

Eric was shocked. I'm being possessed by a demon?!

"You heard that right, child, you're being possessed by a powerful demon!" Father walked closer then gripped Eric's shoulders so tight.
