Chapter 7: The Peace Room

It was in the middle of politics class when Eric noticed that David, that rotten bully, was hurling crumpled papers at Charlie's back.

Eric turned his head and gave that insolent person a cold gaze. If it was any other person, that gaze would have frozen those who behold it on the spot, but it seemed like this David had a protective aura of fire enveloping his body.

When he saw Eric's gaze, he smiled mockingly at him, and got even more energized and quickened his pace at hurling small crumpled paper at poor Charlie's head.

Charlie, that naive kid, didn't even complain, instead he continued to listen to their teacher's droning monologues about political branches of the government.

Eric gritted his teeth. At one hand, he was angry at David for harassing his friend and disrupting his concentration. But on the other hand, he was also angry of Charlie's not doing anything at all, as if he's not affected by the hard crumpled pieces of paper hitting his head at blinding speed.

Maybe Charlie is, indeed, immune to this kind of thing, Eric thought.

But still, he needed to do something to make this stop. Even if Charlie himself is not doing anything and just tolerating this outright violation of peace, Eric must end this problem himself.

He looked back at the guy, and saw that he's alone at the back row. Jarwin and the other bullies were apparently absent. Huh, how dare you have the nerve to harass someone weaker when you're even alone and not with your cronies? This guy's really thick-skinned.

With a terrifyingly cold look on his face, Eric mouthed at David, "Stop it!" Or I'll fucking kill you.

The Chinese guy didn't stop.

Whispering under his breath but enough to send his message across, Eric said, "I said stop it, or I'll have you deported back to China."

The teacher heard this and with an upside-down lips tinted red, she walked over Eric's desk, her arms crossed. "What did you say? Eric, we don't tolerate racism here in this school. David's a foreigner here, and we should treat them with hospitality. We Filipinos are known for that. You should uphold this value."

"But, ma'am, he was---"

"Quiet, I don't wanna hear any reasoning. Those statements are hostile. Let me hear it again and I'll chastise you." With this, the teacher turned around and resumed her discussion.

Eric looked back. He noticed David stopped doing his violative behavior, and even looked so innocent. But as soon as the teacher got engrossed with the discussion again, his visage changed into a fiery determination and resumed throwing paper at Charlie. He really went all out because he tore his blank notebook pages just so he could have something to throw at the helpless kid.

Eric looked at Charlie, who was so focused on the discussion. He was even muttering under his breath the topic that was being discussed, and writing them down on his notes. "Chief executive... Okay, right... Then the senators and congressmen..."

Eric wanted to punch this kid on the face so he'd wake up to reality and realize that his head is being violated by the devil behind them.

Eric, feeling helpless, just stared coldly at David. Fucking idiot. Nothing better to do, ha? Then you'd better go back to China, you good-for-nothing insane person. Your countrymen are invading our islands, and now you're also violating my friend's rights? How dare you?!

Anger welled up in him, like boiling water, and erupted like a geyser. Slamming his desk, he stood up and chastised David. "Fucking stop it!"

All eyes were on him as silence wash over the entite class. Eric's voice resonated inside the room and escaped to the hallways. He was breathing heavily.
