Chapter 57: Don't Force Me
David had pulled him into a secluded grassy area at the sidewalk. The street lamps gave off a comforting orange glow.
David still had his hand gripping Eric's.
"Let me go."
"I won't if you don't talk about what your problem is," David replied.
"What problem? There's no problem."
"When I say there's a problem, there's a problem. Tell me, why are you being like this? Why aren't you talking to me recently, ah?!"
Eric smirked. "Well, then, if you're talking about that, then aren't you the one who started it all? You don't respect my decision."
"Decision about what, ah? That you don't want to be with me? Well, fuck your decision, because I greatly believe that your decision will only lead to your downfall. Stop believing those lies you've been hearing at your church! They're brainwashing you, Eric, can't you see that?!"
"There, this is you being disrespectful again about my own opinions and my perspectives! You're being narrow-minded right now!"
"Narrow-minded? You're the one being narrow-minded with all those lies you've been believing!"
David suddenly smirked, his eyes reflecting the orange glow like fire. He pulled Eric's hand and drew his face closer to Eric's. "...or are you jealous because of her?"
Eric frowned. "What, jealous?! I should only be happy about you two!"
David snorted. "Have fun lying to yourself! Deep in my heart I know you have something for me too! You're just denying it!"
Eric stayed silent, his mind racing. He didn't know what to say. So he pulled his hand instead. But instead of breaking free of David's grip, he pulled David violently into him, causing David to topple forward and crash into him on the grass.
David and Eric stared at each other. They were both heavily breathing. It's as if time stood still at that exact moment. David was drowning in Eric's eyes.
It was Eric who got up first, dusting his clothes off of dirt and grass. David slowly got up, but before he could get up fully, Eric was already on his feet walking away.
David chased him and hugged him from behind. Eric's feet stopped. He suddenly felt like that Eric in the past who cuddled with David during the night.
"Eric, please..."
"Let me go."
"I don't want to let you go..." David's voice was like a child's begging his parents to stay for the night at his bedroom because he's afraid of the monsters under his bed.
David gripped tighter and buried his face in Eric's back. He fought the tears back but his tears came hard, flowing down his cheeks. "I'm afraid of the world without you..."
Eric fought his clashing feelings. He stayed standing like that, not budging to go away but also not touching David. He was stuck between yes and no.
"Eric, please, let's fix this mess. I want things to be what they were between us." He stayed clinging on Eric.
After a long time, Eric sighed, bowed to look at David's delicate fingers knotted on his stomach, and touched them. "David..."
David suddenly perked up because of Eric's gesture. He hugged him tighter.
"Let me... Let me think about this... okay?"
David's tears flow down again. "There's nothing to think about. Accept me, please..."
