Chapter 18: I Like You so Much
For the last couple of weeks, Eric and David became pals. Not really great friends, but it seemed like the barrier between them has been broken. Eric already forgave him of his past bullying towards Charlie, and he could see that David has completely drifted away from his previous toxic friends. In a sense, David is gaining points from being zero. Right now, he has like 3 points or something.
It's also a good thing that Jarwin, Jaguar, and Loco seemed to have cooled down a bit, and only bullied Charlie in very rare occasions.
For David, it's enough that Eric has been talking to him now. Although Eric still has a cold attitude towards him from time to time, he can't deny that the boy seemed to have gotten a bit warmer towards him.
It's only a few weeks before the major exams, and it's undeniable that the air around the school seemed to have gotten tense. The students in the hallways seemed anxious for something dreadful to come, and everyday, the library's always packed.
Today, Eric was flipping the pages of a politics book, reviewing for a major exam in that subject. It's after class, and it was already dark and raining outside, but the library tables are filled with students.
Beside Eric was Olivia, studying for Math, her brows twisting and contorting. And beside her was Charlie, also studying Math. It was his weak point.
"What the actual hell!" Charlie suddenly exclaimed, astonishing the students around them.
Olivia and Eric looked at him confusedly.
"I can't understand this!" Charlie said, slamming the book he's been reading.
"You want me to help you?" Olivia asked, eyes expressionless.
Charlie nodded like a little dog.
"Then you'd better shut up first, okay? You're scaring the shit out of the people around us," Olivia whispered violently.
"Okay."
Minutes later, Olivia was writing formulas on Charlie's notebook. "So these are the values, if you multiply X by the number inside the parenthesis, then add this to the value of Y, we'll get 520."
Charlie seemed to gaze into the space on his notebook, processing what he just heard but his brain seemed to have lagged.
"...Hey! Are you even listening?!"
Charlie was startled. "Yes! Yes! I'm listening."
Olivia crossed her arms. "Then what did I just say?"
Charlie searched for words and looked at the ceiling fan. "Values X and Y and something... Add something to something and..."
Olivia shook her head, cussing under her breath. "You're a helpless case."
Charlie clicked his tongue, annoyed at himself.
Olivia just stared at him involuntarily, and suddenly she seemed to be lost in her own little world.
It was only when Charlie shuffled in his seat that Olivia's trance was cut.
Eric saw this. There was definitely something sparkling in Olivia's eyes just now. He sighed, stood up, and excused himself. "I'll go to the rest room."
