"Daddy, can we hear a story?" Rain asked sometime later. Ellie was getting Thunder and his little sister ready for bed when their father Austin finally returned from a late dusk patrol. Neither of the young hawks wanted to sleep yet. Eyes wide open, both were now begging their father. Smiling nervously, Austin glanced over at Ellie apologetically.

"They won't go to sleep until you do," Ellie commented. Not needing any further invitation, Austin hopped up on the one edge of the nest where he always told his stories. gazing down at his son and daughter, he asked, "Alright kids, what's it going to be tonight?"

"A love story between you and Mommy," Rain begged, batting her dark brown eyes. Making a face of disgust, Thunder piped up, "The one with you fighting a coyote!"

"Not that one again!"

"You're the one who wants to hear a love story!"

Glancing over at Ellie, Austin tried to think of a way to stop any fights from ensuing. Looking up at the heavens and the stars above, he got an idea. Clearing his throat, he stated, "How bout a story neither of you have ever heard before?" Catching the attention of both Thunder and Rain, they stopped their bickering and gazed up at their father with round eyes, waiting anxiously to hear the tale he had to tell.
