"Wait up Gidget!" Mel and Buddy howled as they raced after the fluffy white Pomeranian. Not wanting to run, the rest of the search party merely followed. Luckily, they hadn't been left behind since the two best friends had successfully gotten Gidget to wait for them. The small dog had a light blush of embarrassment on her face. Shuffling her paws nervously, she mumbled, "Sorry bout that guys..."
"Yeah, sure," Chloe grumbled irritably, her tail lashing side to side. A clear sign of her growing frustration with this entire day. In the back of the group as usual, Tiberius noticed the brief look of hurt flash in Gidget's eyes. He would've said something to the tabby cat like to keep her mouth shut but he knew he was probably gonna get her wrath. Or worse, her claws. The old hawk kept quiet and looked over at Gidget sympathetically. However, the Pomeranian didn't even see. She had her attention on the busy road in front of them. There was a lot of traffic either way one would look. Standing beside Buddy, Mel remarked, "Doesn't seem that bad."
Out of the blue, a beautiful yellow butterfly landed in the middle of the road just as a car zoomed by, crushing it instantly.
"Forget what I just said. We're all gonna die," Mel whimpered, he and Buddy hugging each other for dear life. Sweetpea was frozen stiff beside them and Chloe's tail was puffed up. His eyes widened in shock, Tiberius returned to reality when Pops stated, "What are you youngsters waiting for? Let's get over to the Brooklyn Bridge!" The others looked at the basset hound like he was nuts. Gulping, Gidget mumbled, "But... but the road-"
"Please, I've crossed more roads in my lifetime than you all seen in yours," Pops declared. Before any of the other pets could stop him, the elderly basset hound stepped out onto the black paved road without a moment's hesitation. A split second later, a taxi roared by and hit him, taking him along for the ride while the remaining members of the search party watched in absolute horror.
