Chapter 11

Struggling to get himself free from whatever he was wrapped up in with his little sister, Thunder screeched angrily as he bit and clawed. He could tell that he was injuring whatever had a hold on him. But he couldn't get it to release its hold. The young hawk heard it say something to its pack, "Guys, get a cage ready! And fast!" There was the sound of footsteps running on leaves and twigs after that.

When he felt the creature jump down from the tree and stumble a little but still standing, Thunder assumed that they were on the ground once more. All of the sudden, he and his sister Rain were harshly dropped into a weird structure made from black twigs that shone in the sun like the huge sticks the weird creatures carried. Biting it, Thunder learned that they were much harder than sticks and didn't have the same taste as them. Looking up at the creatures, he hissed.

"What do we do with them?" one of them asked its compadres, ignoring the hiss.

"Is it illegal to eat birds like them?" one asked. He was whacked on the head by his friends.

"I got an idea!" the third exclaimed, "How bout we sell them? I know a guy in the Big Apple."

"Sounds good to me. Here, you drive," the first spoke as he tossed something to the third guy. Grabbing the strange twig structure containing Thunder and Rain, he placed in the back of a weird log with four black colored ones underneath it and lights. A moment later, a sack of sorts was thrown in beside the two youngsters. Looking at it, Thunder could see some feathers. He could also smell his mother and father inside, along with the stench of blood and death.

The next thing he knew, Thunder felt the strange log thing that he and his sister were in move forward. Looking up, he watched as the dead oak tree and the nest he called home grow smaller and smaller from a distance until it was gone altogether...
