“Let’s go! You guys have seven more minutes to make it to your assigned rooms, or I’m considering it a riot and whipping out the batons!” Crystal yells with a firm tone, though it’s obviously a joke.

I’ve been moving what little belongings I have here to the double room that Ren has “blessed” me with. I wanted to run back to the Community Area to grab the water bottle I've been sipping on all night, but I’m not sure I’d make it in seven minutes; not if I want time to brush my teeth.

God, this place sucks.

I rush through the teeth bushing process and wash my face with the dinky bar of soap they’d given me, just as a gentle knock interrupts me.

“Hey, I have to pee!” Sarah’s muffled speech comes through the door.

“Yeah, or she’ll pee the bed again tonight!” Another voice says. I assume that it’s Ella considering that it’s not Sarah, Ren, or either of the boys.

I skip using the bathroom like I’d intended to and swing open the door. Sarah gets too much shit from everybody else here because she’s the smallest. I’ll gladly give up my bathroom time for her.

“Thank you!” Sarah rushes into the room yelling.

I shout a quick you’re welcome and make my way down the hallway to my new room.

I wonder where Ren is, though she made it a point to say she wasn’t going to help me switch rooms because she’s meeting with the doctor.

I suspect that she was talking about Evan, though. Does she just get to run off and fuck this guy when and wherever they please? How does she get away with that shit? Does everybody here already know it’s a thing?

Whatever.

I toss my satchel of bathroom essentials onto the small nightstand that I now have. I assume that only the double rooms have them, because my last room wasn't furnished with one.

I consider grabbing my Memoirs of a Geisha book, the only item I took from Mama G’s care package at visitation. I decide not to last minute though, as I feel a yawn start to creep up on me.

My baby must be exhausted today.

I’m sure she’s not used to me being so active anymore. Between being in the hospital, and then coming here and trying to wait out my sentence glued to the mattress? I’ve been pretty sedentary this past week or so.

I make my way to the bed and lower myself on top of the covers without even removing the slippers on my feet. I flick off my lamp just as Crystal swings open the heavy door.

“Goodnight, Goldster!” she whispers loudly. “I told you it wouldn’t be so bad!”
