I see Ren grow tense in my peripherals and draw conclusions on what Jena’s intention coming up here was.
I stand with my palms on Dan’s cheeks, only inches away from his face, with his hands wrapped around my wrists.
He looks worried. He probably should be, I don’t know? Jena didn’t discuss any of this with me before putting it into action.
Of course I go with it anyway.
“Could we maybe… try that again?” I ask, my voice oddly similar to Harlee in a scene I used to love from one of her movies.
I memorized not only all of her lines, but her expressions and mannerisms as well.
The leading male, Darien had just tried to kiss her, and she chickened out only for him woo her into wanting a second shot at it.
I see what Jena is doing here.
Dan furrows his brows in confusion, matching Darien from the movie to a T and not even knowing it. “Try what again?” he asks. He smiles nervously in real life, but perfect for the scene.
In honor of Harlee, I flash her infamous “girl next door smile” before using my embrace on his face to pull it to mine.
I passionately press my lips to his, surprising him along with everybody else in the room.
Including Ren.
The room breaks out in clamor as Dan pulls away from me wearing a look of shock.
“No PDA!” a nurse calls out over all the ‘oohs’ the room had broken out in.
“It was a scene from one of her sisters’ movies!” I hear Sarah call out over every else. "You don't have to act like kids!"
The nurses still aren’t having it, but I give her props for knowing that when I walk back to my seat.
Ren doesn’t look too happy, but I pretend not to notice and let myself fall back into my chair.
The nurses scold me again before choosing two new people to the center for a new scene.
“Sorry!” I exclaim to them, though I intentionally aim my next words at Ren. “I’m just playing the game!”
