“Where were you earlier?” Ren asks almost as soon as she walks through the door to our room.

I assume she was in her appointment with Dr. Reyborn because I haven’t seen her since I got back from the roof. I was thankful not to deal with all her shit during lunch; She would have flipped if she saw the nurse that watches our intake mark me at an 80 when I’d only eaten half of the high-calorie meal they provided me.

“I was with one of the nurses,” I say with a small sigh that goes unnoticed.

It isn’t a lie, but I’m also not about to tell her the whole truth. Power hungry Ren couldn’t handle other people getting privileges around here.

“Okay?” she asks, growing worked up. Her skin grows flushed. “Doing what?! Were you fucking the nurse or something?! Where were you?!”

My brows furrow as I pull myself from my mattress to face her. “I’m not sure, where did you check?” I ask with more of an attitude that I intend to.

Ren doesn’t notice though. It’s like she’s a whole new person. The ever so famous smug smile she always wears on her face is gone, and replaced with a frown that I’m convinced most people go out of their way to avoid.

I’m glad I had the chance to see this. Is this what everyone is afraid of? This is nothing! I’ve seen children scarier than her!

“I looked everywhere, Hayden! I practically run this place, remember?! I know everywhere there is around here.” Ren sneers angrily as she grills me. She crosses her arms over her chest. “So where the hell were you?”

Who on God’s green Earth is this girl? Well- who does she think she is?! Someone needs to knock her down a few pegs because I’m not taking her shit. What I do is none of her fucking business!

“I guess you don’t run this place like you thought you did, hmm?” I say before anything else can escape my lips.

I know it’ll challenge her; I practically just met the girl, but I’m aware of that much.  The look on her face confirms it.

“Oh yeah?” she asks, taken back but still red with anger. “So you... what? You got it in your head that you run this place now?”

I don’t. At all.

But honestly, with those drugs out of my room- what does this borderline, bipolar, anti-social ass psychopath have on me?

Especially when these nurses are on Dane’s payroll now?

This place is miserable because of this girl, maybe it’s time that shit changes.

“I’m just saying…” I say after a few moments, shrugging my shoulders. With that, I turn to lie down with a laugh. I don’t even have to see Ren to feel the fury that runs through her veins.

She says nothing, just like I predicted when I’d ended the conversation. I bet she isn’t used to not having the last word... just like I’m not used to having it.

I guess we both have new roles to adjust to; Only while she dislikes hers, I’m thinking I’ll like mine.
