Evan knows he shouldn’t be talking to me. He’s made it a point to let me know that Ren would be “a little miffed” if she knew. But also that as Ward Lead, it’s his position to “keep the peace.”
It only makes it that much better when he keeps me in his office five minutes after he’s already made his point.
He’s making this easier and easier.
“Ren and I just have a... close relationship. She’s been here for a while, and really opened up to me,” he says for the billionth time. He seems to feel the need to reiterate it quite a bit. “I’ve noticed that she’s had an affliction towards you for whatever reason. I’m just hoping that won’t impede your recovery, so I wanted to check in on you.”
Nodding my head, I offer him a smile as if to thank him for looking out for me.
I just can’t help the voice in the back of my head telling me those aren’t his true intentions. And I don’t want to help it; Not this time.
I mean, this could just be an act of Ren. Maybe trying to use her man on the inside to gain some edge over me or something. I’m not sure what exactly she’d be benefitting out of sending Evan after me for a friendly chat, but hey! Ren works in weird ways.
It might also be the act of a man though; a man interested in something other than what he’s had for months, according to Ren. That’s what I’m more inclined to believe because, let's be honest- men are horny.
“So I guess if everything is okay, then that’s that?” Evan clasps his hands together and says after a few moments of silence between us.
No... that can’t be all. A familiar stirring in the depths of my mind won’t allow that.
“Uhm, actually?” I say as he raises himself from the chair across the desk. He freezes in his spot. His brows raise in both interest and concern, assumingly because I finally have something non-prompted to say.
He lowers himself back into his chair, and nods his head once as if to tell me to continue.
It’s strange to have these voices running wild in my mind again. It’s been so quiet up there before these last couple of days; I forget how to organize them.
But the one I need has no problem finding its place.
“What’s your age limit?” I ask, crossing my arms over my chest and twisting my face into that of interest.
Evan’s brows raise once again, but I catch him trying to shake it off as he furrows his brows in confusion.
“What do you mean, Hayden?” he asks, his eyes trying to scorch me.
It doesn’t work, of course- so I confidently go on.
“Well, I know Ren is about a year older than me...” I say, intentionally sounding innocent as I glance to the side and shrug my shoulders.
Evan visibly grows uncomfortable across from me, trying to interrupt me as he clears his throat. “Hayden-“ he goes to say, but I’m unaffected.
That’s not my name right now.
“I really think I could bring something a little better to the table though,” I say, ignoring his attempt to interrupt. “Pregnancy does something insane to a woman’s sexual energy, and well… I’ve had nowhere to spend that energy. Think I could... really open up to you too?”
