“I promise you!” I tell Ryan, trying to be reassuring. “Crystal is going to cover for you; You won’t get into any trouble… at all. Just keep it off camera!”
It took a lot of convincing, but I think I may have gotten Ryan on board with the whole plan.
His face reads worried, but I can tell he’s trying to put a lot of faith in the words I’ve been saying for the last 10 minutes.
“You’re sure? Positive?” he asks for what seems like the hundredth time. “I trust you, Hayden; I do. I just don’t trust them!”
Nodding my head, I offer him a small but encouraging smile. Ryan must not know about Dane burning Crystal’s house down, or he’d trust that she’ll do what I tell her to.
“I’m positive,” I say with confidence.
Ryan sighs, but I let myself relax knowing he’s already in. He hasn’t told me he is, but I can tell by the look on his face. Jena dances in my mind, ready to celebrate her victory.
“I guess I’ll do it…” he says after a few moments, as I assumed he would. “You’re lucky I like you so much; You know how I feel about Ren.”
I scoot closer to him without hesitation, a huge smile spreading across my lips.
“Of course I’m lucky,” I tell him in agreement. I say something else, but I can’t process it behind Jena’s rambling on about “celebrations.”
Ryan smiles, visibly pleased with whatever it was I said. Suddenly, I’m climbing on top of him and letting her monster loose.
Things are about to get a lot better around here.
