So Dane's name was changed to Anthony when I broke down and decided to tell Dr. Reyborn about 'this friend' that didn't care for the fact that I was pregnant.
And Dr. Reyborn had advised me, after being told quite a bit about 'Anthony,' that he was someone I should eliminate from my life if I was looking to live "the best life possible."
I didn't even tell her all the gory details. Just about our relationship, and how it had turned south after a while and he got abusive.
I wonder what would've been her prescription cure had I told her the whole truth...
"They play this movie every two weeks," Sarah complains beside me as she shifts impatiently in her chair. Ren rolls her eyes on the opposite side of me, but allows Sarah to speak instead of butting in as she had been for the last 20 minutes. "Can we pick a new one or something? I'm so tired of watching Balto!"
One of the nurses eyeball Sarah to acknowledge her, but doesn't take any further action to change the movie.
"Balto used to be one of my favorite movies as a kid," I offer after a few moments, once again finding myself trying to cut this little girl some slack. "You know it's based off a true story? Minus the talking animals and stuff, obviously..."
Sarah perks up in interest, but doesn't get to say anything before Ren finally decides she's had enough of someone paying more attention to Sarah than her.
"Hayden, you need to stop entertaining her crap," she says with annoyance in her voice, despite the infamous smile that still sits on her face. "She knows that all she has to do is ask me, and the movie will be changed. She just chooses not to!"
I hear Sarah huff beside me but turn to Ren. It takes a lot to keep me from narrowing my eyes at her, so I just plaster the same smile she wears across my own face.
"Why ask you?" I ask, shoving a fake confusion into my voice though I've already caught onto her power trip and the need to feel important. "She can't just ask a nurse? Is the movie they play during downtime really that important that we can't pick it?"
Sarah's head snaps toward me, her tiny jaw dropped in surprise as she lets out a small gasp. "You should ask!" she blurts before Ren has a chance to respond. "I bet they'd change it if you asked! You're famous! They can't say no to you!"
Ren and I both laugh, but for different reasons, I'm sure.
I laughed because Sarah thinks that just because I'm 'famous,' rules don't apply for me. I mean- how does the girl think I ended up here in the first place? If rules didn't apply, I'd have gotten away with what I'd done, no questions asked!
Ren probably laughed out of annoyance, based off the way the smile fell from her face as she turned to both of us to reply.
"Sarah, don't be stupid." She says as she eyeballs the little girl in a way I'm sure is supposed to intimidate her. "Did Sienna absorb all of your brain cells in utero? Or are you really dumb enough to believe Hayden's going to have some pull just because shes famous or whatever?"
Sarah looks like she's got something snide to say, but instead just scrunches up her face in anger as she crosses her arms over her chest and turns back to face the TV.
I probably shouldn't do what I'm about to do, but by the time I'm able to convince myself of otherwise- I'm already all the way across the room, and standing in front of one of the younger looking male nurses.
"Break time?" he asks with a brow raised almost as soon as I make it to him.
Huh? Break time? What's that?
I don't focus too long on it because somehow I can feel Ren's eyes on my back, just burning into me and awaiting my next move.
"Uhm- can we pick a new movie?" I ask after a second. "I know we're already a few minutes in, but-"
Nurse boy cuts me off, shrugging his shoulders as he nods his head and points towards the cabinet holding all of the DVDs. "Have at it," he says with little interest or emotion in his voice.
My face is shocked, but I quickly return it to neutral as I turn around to Sarah and motion for her to choose a new movie from the cabinet. She excitedly runs across the room, leaving Ren sitting there with a very angered expression on her face.
I can't help something inside of me from growing... interested? Excited?
I turn back around to Nurse boy with a smile- the excitement probably too apparent on my face.
"Thanks!" I exclaim with a small laugh I can't keep down. A few seconds pass with me not sure what to say, but his earlier question sneaks back into my mind and fills the void. "So what's this 'break time' about?"
