Jenalyn: Crossing Lines
Tyler sleeps beside me, his snoring louder than usual. I’m thankful for Gage’s gentle voice on the other end of my phone, singing the words to one of their songs to try to help me get to sleep.
I’m even more thankful that he’s wrapped tight enough around my finger that I could convince him to do this in the first place. I know it’s weird for him considering that Ty is his brother… but he also knows that Tyler fucked up.
We’re only together until this New York press trip is over, and we can break the news to Mama G.
I zone Gage out when I hear the faint sound of a knock on my hotel door.
It’s after 12 AM though, and I’m pretty sure my management team set rules with the hotel about not disturbing me after 10:30…
I must be hearing things.
Gage still sings on the other end of my phone, his words passionate despite the disclaimer he’d given me earlier.
But I tune him out again, certain I heard a knock this time because it turns into more of a bang.
What the fuck?
“I’m sorry Gage-” I whisper, cutting him off mid-song and hanging up the phone.
I peek over to Ty, who still lay passed out on his bed. How did he sleep through that?
I rush over to his bed, shaking his shoulder as I try to wake him. “Ty!” I call out to him, “Wake up!”
He doesn’t budge. What the fuck?!
Three more knocks split the silence of our hotel room, now louder than the second set. I practically lift Ty halfway off of the bed, but he still doesn’t wake up.
My anxiety is over the moon right now, and I can’t process anything before I grab my robe and head to the hotel door. I don’t even think to check the peephole before I pull it open with both shock and panic plastered across my face.
I wish I did.
I pull open the door to find Dane standing, an eerie smile spread across his lips.
“Hello Jenalyn,” he says, shoving his hands into his pockets before giving me a once over. His eyes rest longest on the bulge coming out from my belly before he returns his glare to my face. “I see that you’re out of the looney bin… and still very pregnant.”
