CHAPTER 27
Boys and Bus Rides
REN
I SMELT DANGER.
Or just maybe because his actions made me feel like there is. I don't actually know but as there had been another knock on the door, I have never been so thankful for his fingers restraining me from speaking with my big, big mouth.
Milo.
Yes, that's it.
We could actually use it at times like these.
We heard some footsteps from outside and I have never been more nervous than before. I felt my sweat bud cold across my chest. This is not a good feeling.
"Master, it seems to be empty. Are you sure this is the right place?"
I searched for anything to grab on as I waited for what was next to happen. I noticed Knight's hand also finding weight support from the pad of the fridge.
"How sure are you, though—no, I am not doubting you—yes, yes of course, Sir—I will keep that in mind—yes Sir—I will."
The man knocked again. Who knew if he's even alone? He might be with five or ten other men, if you really think hard.
"Let's go."
And how right I was.
We stayed just like that, as if mutually thinking that they could bluff it and will just have to wait for a few minutes to try and see if one of us would dare to switch the lights on. Knight took my hand and guided me to a stool nearby. I helped myself. He went to the windows near the door and peered through the curtain.
And white light washed the room.
I looked at him and I am not even expecting him to answer but what he said sent shivers from my head down my feet.
"Pangatlong araw na iyan, Ren. Good thing you're either at school or at the internet shop when they were spying around this block. It seems like they need something from you."
HINDI AKO MAKAKAIN.
I'm not sure whether it's because of what he said, of what I did to Hans, or because the food is my cooking and not his. But all three could comply as factors.
I really like his cooking more than mine.
Not that I'm a bad cook.
"I heard you have no classes tomorrow," saad nito.
Tumango ako at pinipilit sumubo ng kanin. He watched me. Actually, I have noticed it long ago that he doesn't like it when he finishes first. He always makes sure that all the food in my plate is all gobbled up. Whether I'm hungry or full. Not that I mind it though. I actually really like it. However, I don't want to argue with him tonight. I can't really eat.
"Wanna go out with me?"
I absently looked at him and threw the malice aside. Nasanay na akong lumalabas na kasama siya—sa pamamalengke, sa pagpasok sa paaralan kung saan palagi siyang sumasabay dahil may pupuntahan, sa pagpunta ng internet shop—these past weeks, he surely doesn't seem like the boy I met in their mansion. And I kind of got used to him being around.
"Saan mo balak pumunta?"
"Sa dating tinirhan ko."
"Sa bahay niyo? Pinababalik ka na?"
Is it just me or I did sound a little disappointed?
"No. Not there. And no, not yet. Ano, wanna come?"
