Saying to talk to Yoongi was one thing.
Actually talking to him was ten times harder.
Jimin's heart beat up to his throat, almost painfully hard. He had to concentrate to breathe slowly and evenly.
Last time he had seen Yoongi they had kissed; last time, everything had gone wrong. What would happen now?
Jimin knew Namjoon and Hoseok had been right when they said that no matter what, Yoongi's reaction now would be answer enough to Jimin's unspoken question.
"Okay... breathe. You can do this," he whispered to himself. He glanced around, then finally stepped closer to the door and rang the bell.
Maybe Yoongi wasn't home. Maybe that would be the best outcome out of all. Maybe –
The door buzzed and Jimin flinched. The noise sent cold shivers down his spine, yet he pushed the door open and entered the building.
They way up to Yoongi's apartment was longer than usual. Perhaps Jimin was dragging it out.
When he finally reached the right floor and saw the door was ajar, his heart was ready to jump out of his chest. This would decide it all.
Yoongi appeared in the doorway, hair a mess and dressed in sweats and a large shirt. He looked like he had just been taking a nap, which, honestly, was not unlike Yoongi.
His eyes widened when he spotted Jimin standing there in the staircase, looking at him and nervously wringing his hands.
"Jimin?" he asked as if he didn't believe his eyes, which was quite mean considering they had just seen each other about two weeks ago. But Jimin tried not to think of that.
"Yeah... hi," he said and forced a smile, "Sorry to disturb, I didn't even know if you really were home, but... can we maybe talk?"
Yoongi continued to stare at him for a few more moments before he blinked and realized he had been spoken to.
"I – this is a bit sudden," he said, scratching the back of his neck, "You could have called."
"But I needed an answer now," Jimin said, "We don't have to talk for long, just... please."
Yoongi looked at him with pained eyes. He seemed reluctant. Jimin stepped closer.
"Can we please, please talk? You... you owe me that much."
Yoongi closed his eyes. He knew Jimin was right, Jimin could see it.
"This is... just a really not a good time, Jimin," Yoongi said quietly, "I –"
"Never will be a good time," Jimin said, "Just... it doesn't have to be for long, I swear. I just need some clarity, that's all." And when Yoongi still didn't move, Jimin added, "Can I please come in?"
It was as if the universe had timed it perfectly. The woman's voice was soft and sweet, "Yoongi, who is it?"
Jimin furrowed his brows in confusion, but the way Yoongi's eyes widened was answer enough. Jimin opened his mouth, but no words came; despite the millions of questions he had instantly, there wasn't a single coherent thought in his mind.
The door was pulled further open and a young woman, about Jimin's age, appeared next to Yoongi. She looked sleepy, just like Yoongi, and she was wearing an oversized shirt, one that was reaching down to her thighs. It was one of Yoongi's; Jimin had worn it himself many times before.
He swallowed harshly against the painful lump in his throat.
"Oh, hi," the woman said and smiled sweetly, "You don't look like the pizza delivery guy." She giggled after that; a sweet, charming giggle. Jimin raised his eyebrows.
"No, I'm not," he said, then looked at Yoongi who avoided his eyes. "Sorry for interrupting. I –" His mouth hung open as he still had so much to say, but no words left his lips. And maybe it was better that way. Jimin shook his head.
"Thanks for your time," he said quietly and, with a glance at the stranger, added, "I wish you all the best."
And with those words, he turned around and made his way downstairs and out of the building he had been to countless times before.
Jimin only allowed his tears to come when he had walked around the corner, ignoring that everyone around him could see him cry. He wouldn't have been able to hold them back anyway.
