Yoongi regretted agreeing to meeting up with his friends as soon as he entered the café.
It wasn't his friends that he particularly minded, of course not, but there were two reasons why he wanted to spin on his heel and walk home right away again.
First, this was absolutely not his day. He just wanted to be alone, in his apartment, maybe get some stuff done. Then, he would've at least gotten something out of this day.
Second, Park Jimin. The incident. Jungkook would be there. This was not okay.
Now, he was standing in the café, his friends only a few meters away. Yoongi could still turn around and leave again, pretend he had forgotten or something else had come into his way.
Could, but then, Seokjin turned around and spotted him.
Yoongi waved awkwardly.
"Hey, Yoongi!" Seokjin smiled. Yoongi walked closer; everyone was there. Hoseok, Namjoon (thank God, some people who didn't hate him, at least), Taehyung, Jungkook and Jimin.
"Hey," he said and sat down. He tried not to look at Jimin. Tried.
Said man was sitting close to Jungkook. Their hands were intertwined.
Yoongi thought of the incident from a few days ago. Wondered if Jimin had told Jungkook. Wondered if Jimin even remembered it and if yes, what it meant to him.
Seokjin was quick to start a new conversation.
"We were just talking about movies, and honestly –" He took a large sip of his drink before continuing, "I need your opinion on this."
Hoseok sighed. "Come on..."
"He," Seokjin said while pointing at Hoseok, "Prefers Marvel over Matrix."
"Oh," Yoongi said and looked at Hoseok. "I see."
"Seokjin is super pissed because of it," Namjoon told him, "I think he's a little too passionate about it."
"Someone has to be!" Seokjin exclaimed, "Every person who has a notion of what's good for them would prefer Matrix, it's just a fact – what do you think?" He looked at Yoongi again, his eyes weirdly widened and lips pressed together.
Yoongi shrugged slowly.
"It's a tough question," he agreed, "But I think I'm with Hoseok here." He wasn't. He had no idea, honestly, his mind was somewhere else.
"See," Hoseok said.
"Unbelievable," said Seokjin and leaned back in his chair, looking utterly devastated, "You disgust me."
"If it helps," Taehyung barged in, "I wouldn't watch either."
"Disgusting," Seokjin repeated, "But no surprise. You're weird anyway." He crossed his arms in front of his chest, ignoring Taehyung's protests. He looked like a pouting child. Yoongi had to suppress his grin.
"Yah, hyung," he heard Jimin say, "Stop acting like that, or else I can't take you serious anymore."
His voice alone was enough to make Yoongi shiver.
Kiss me, hyung, was all he heard, I still love you. So much.
Yoongi looked at him and Jungkook, at how close they were sitting, and thought about them. How real was this thing between them?
Seokjin just rolled his eyes at Jimin's words, then he turned to Jungkook.
"Help me," he begged and tried to sound as desperate as possible. Jungkook shrugged.
"Iron Man is pretty cool," he said, a cheeky smile tugging at the right corner of his lips.
"Iron Man," Hoseok huffed, "Come on, the only reason you like Marvel is because of Scarlett Johansson. She's hot."
"You are a needy loser," Seokjin said. Hoseok raised his arms in defense and nudged Yoongi.
"He agrees with me."
Now, Seokjin was looking at him. Yoongi shrugged with one shoulder.
"She is hot."
"You don't know what quality is," Seokjin said, and for a moment, Yoongi thought he genuinely looked disappointed, which was funny to him, but Namjoon decided that now was the moment to interrupt the discussion and put it to an end, so he smoothly changed the topic to how everyone's day was.
Yoongi decided to just keep quiet because it reminded him that today wasn't his day, today was a piece of shit and he wanted it to go fuck off and not talk about it.
So he sat there and listened to his friends instead.
That, though, only made it weirder when he raised his head and his eyes met Jimin's, because, he hadn't said anything, so why was he staring at him?
Jimin seemed to realize that, too, because he blinked and blushed and lowered his head.
He looked hurt.
Yoongi hated it, but he figured he had to get used to it.
Jimin seemed equally embarrassed about the situation, so he rubbed his hands against his thighs and cleared his throat.
Much to his luck, Jungkook was currently talking about something incredibly funny that happened the other day, so Jimin took that opportunity to join the conversation.
"Right," he said and forced a chuckle, "I need to tell you what happened the other day, at university. I was – I was just sitting in class, everything was normal, when suddenly, this guy opens the door and walks straight into the room and goes, ' – "
"'Is this the urban studies class?' Yeah, you already told me that," Jungkook interrupted him, adding an annoyed sigh and then proceeded to listen to whatever story Namjoon was currently telling.
Yoongi saw Jimin blink dumbfounded. Then, he slumped down a little and just looked down at his hands.
It shouldn't bother Yoongi. This was none of his fucking business – it shouldn't matter if Jimin looked hurt or if Jungkook behaved correctly or not.
Maybe it wasn't even a big deal. But for some reason, it did bother Yoongi, a lot.
He caught himself staring at Jimin, then at Jungkook, and before he could think about whether it would be good to say something or stay out of it, he had already opened his damn mouth.
"You know," he said, loud enough so Jungkook would hear him, "He does that often. Telling things multiple times."
Immediately, he could feel everyone's eyes on him. He could especially feel Jimin's eyes on him.
"Because he thinks that no one's listening. Because it happened too many times before."
In retrospect, Yoongi should've shut up, but that didn't even come close to his mind at that moment.
"So maybe next time when he tells you something he already told you before, you just smile and listen to him again, because apparently, it excites him so much that he feels the need to tell you, which is a fucking good thing, okay? You should appreciate that, or you reflect your own behavior a little and think if you maybe, maybe gave him a reason to tell you again by not listening properly the first time. Just an idea."
Yoongi felt his body tense up once he finished.
Jungkook was staring at him, wide-eyed. Jimin glared at him. But at the same time, he looked amazed. And conflicted.
Leave, Yoongi's brain told him, You fucked up.
And he did, he knew that. This had been so unnecessary and awkward, so fucking awkward – what even was the point? What was he trying to reach?
Seokjin spoke up again, "Yoongi, are you alright?", at which Yoongi sighed, "No," and stood up.
"No, I don't think I'm fucking alright. I'll just... be outside or whatever."
Seokjin raised his eyebrows. He didn't get a chance to ask any more questions because Yoongi just turned around and left without a word of goodbye. It was better that way.
So, yeah, Yoongi should've had stayed home. This day was a complete disaster, and it wasn't getting any better – instead, Yoongi kept embarrassing himself, even in front of his friends. He wasn't sure if he could ever face them again, especially not Jimin, God, Jimin, and Jungkook.
There were wolds between the Jimin Yoongi had seen the other night and the Jimin inside the bar at that exact moment. And, once again, he told himself it was the alcohol, just the alcohol.
Jimin had been drunk as fuck, of course he would act oddly.
And right now, it seemed like he knew how to behave around Yoongi. And apparently, Yoongi didn't, Yoongi had no idea how to be decent around his ex and his new boyfriend.
God, if he kept going like that he'd have to find new friends soon.
He didn't get why this break up was still making things hard for him. It shouldn't, not for him. But now, it was making his good days miserable and his miserable days even more miserable and it sucked.
It sucked that Jimin was with Jungkook and it felt weird to admit that.
Yoongi walked home that day, wondering what any of this meant. And wondering why he had even gotten out of bed that day. After all, things weren't getting any better.
