Chances

We both  took chances.
You took one with your heart.
I took one with my mind.
We both took chances.

And we came close,
Closer than I thought I would  with you.
We came

But it never happened.

How does this happen?

But
You don't land in splashing sweet water
Instead
There are drops of saline,
Wetting your lips
As they trail a path  of moments
From your eyes
Through your cheek
To someplace where their existence is void.
And with them,
You land in a desert
Of shredded heart and broken pieces of paper,
With an oasis of ink and words.
And maybe
You'll find a paradise there.

Even if our chances had unexpected turns,
You will find your solace.
I will find my solace.
We'll  find our solace.
If not in one another,
Then in the memories,
We surely will.
