It was finally Christmas Eve. Today was a cold day and it was snowing heavily, leaving a beautiful blanket of white falling onto the ground outside. I woke up to loud chatter downstairs with quiet Christmas music playing in the background.
It was around 10:00 a.m. and I heard that the whole second floor of the house was quiet, leaving me to assume everybody was downstairs. I slipped out of bed and changed into a loose fitting top with some black yoga pants. I then brushed my teeth and washed my face, throwing my hair up into a messy bun.
I grabbed my phone to check the notifications, seeing that I had a couple missed text messages from Emora who was wishing me a happy Christmas Eve. After replying, I decided to head downstairs to eat some breakfast so that I could take my pain medicine. My hand was throbbing lightly but the pain was bearable.
While making my way down the stairs, the voices got louder and I realized that I didn't recognize some of them.
Were there visitors? I thought Killian said his family wasn't arriving until tomorrow.
Once I was downstairs, I hesitantly walked into the living room where the chatter came from. I was met by an array of four unfamiliar faces; two adults and two children.
Mrs. Parker, Daniel, Jax, and a bored looking Killian sat on one couch while a man, his wife, and two young looking kids sat on another. Mrs. Parker and Daniel were engaging in conversation with the unfamiliar couple, while Jax was talking to their kids. Killian sat besides him, scrolling though his phone and showing no interest in interacting.
When I entered the room, all eyes flicked to me in surprise. Almost immediately, Killian began to speak.
"Morning Er-"
"Eris! Im so glad you're awake! My sister and her family arrived a little early and I'm so excited for you to meet them!" Mrs. Parker interrupted in excitement. "This is my sister Maya, there's her husband Garret and these are their two kids Mace and Victoria."
Mrs. Parker pointed out the family members as she introduced them. And I noticed the striking resemblance between Mrs. Parker and Maya. Their only difference was their hair color.
"Hello Eris, it's nice to meet you, you can call me Mrs. Lane." Maya greeted.
"Hi." I answered shyly.
Her husband who I assumed I should call Mr. Lane gave me a criticizing scan, frowning at what he saw.
"She's shorter then I expected." He grumbled.
Mrs. Lane scoffed. "Everyone is short to you sweety, you're six foot five."
I smiled at her, moving towards the couch where Killian sat to take a seat besides him.
"So to explain, they came early to help set up and decorate for the family reunion tomorrow. We plan to get as festive as possible!" Mrs. Parker chirped. "Daniel and Garret will go get a tree while Maya and I go shopping for some ornaments and house decorations. Meanwhile, you kids will stay home and watch the younger ones." She pointed to Killian, Jax, and I with a mischievous glint in her eye. "When we return, we will all begin to decorate."
Mace and Victoria's faces lit up in excitement.
"Can I put the star on the Christmas tree?" Victoria asked.
"No, I'm doing it!" Her brother argued, crossing his arms.
Mr. Lane shushed them before getting on his feet. "Let's go Daniel, so we can return before lunch time." He didn't wait for a response and quickly left the room, shooting me a hard glance as he walked by.
