The moment Killian and I left the house we called and Uber to drive us to the nearest children's hospital. We needed to make sure that Athena wasn't seriously injured from her fall out the window, and were utterly grateful and amazed when the doctors cleared her with nothing but bruising. She had no brain or skull damage which was incredible considering she was less than a week old.
Because of this, the check up was quick. Right after, Killian bought us plane tickets back to Connecticut. We would be heading strait back to Mrs. Parker's house to deliver her her new bundle of joy.
I couldn't even begin to express how grateful I was to her that she would be taking Athena in. I felt like there was a weight lifted off of my shoulders and as if I had one less thing to worry about. My little sister would be safe and grow to be happy with her new wealthy family.
On the plane ride back I began to think about the situation at hand.
After today, I doubt I would ever see my parents again. They threatened to kill Killian and I and that will not be taken lightly. I am unsure if I will ever be able to forgive them after what they did to us. After what they did to Athena. Their actions were unfathomable and thinking about it angered me so I forced myself to push those thoughts away.
At this time, were about halfway into our short flight and Athena was laying in my lap taking a nap. She was the calmest baby I had ever met and didn't even stir when the loud airplane engine turned on.
"She looks like you."
My thoughts were interrupted by Killian's low voice. His words made me smile for he saw it too. I have never had a sibling before so it felt good to have someone else of my blood that wasn't a parent.
"Yeah. She does doesn't she?" I agreed, looking down at my sister affectionately.
"You must really love her."
"I do."
"Well I'm happy to tell you that she'll be safe with my family.
"I'm sure. And just letting you know now, I'm probably going to be visiting her every available weekend."
Killian laughed. "I don't have a problem with that."
One question did stick out in my mind so I found myself asking it without a second thought.
"Your uncle won't hurt her right?"
He didn't hesitate to shake his head. "I won't let him anywhere near her."
He stuck out his large hand and stroked Athena's smooth cheek with his finger. He was being so gentle and looking at her with adoring eyes. It made me so happy.
I knew that just like he protects me, he would always protect her.
The remainder of the flight was uneventful and I was getting mighty tired. I not only needed sleep but I was also mentally exhausted. I almost sighed in relief when the pilot announce our arrival back in Connecticut.
Like before, when the plane lowered itself back into the ground my ears popped painfully. I was afraid Athena's would pop too and she would wake up and cry but she slept through the whole thing.
In fact, she didn't wake up until after we exited the plane and retrieved our luggage from the Baggage Claim. Just as Killian reached out to grab my suitcase her big blue eyes popped open and she began to cause a fuss, indicating that she needed a diaper change.
Thankfully, one of the many stores inside the large airport sold diapers and I was able to buy some to suppress her needs.
After that, I had Killian call an Uber to drive us the remainder of the way back to his mother's house. When we finally arrived I was at ease, everything seemed to be settling now.
