Chapter 2

Point of View: Nobody

The next day Nightbird woke up with a small smile on her face and happier eyes. She hopped out of breath and stretched her wings as usual, bounding out of her room and downstairs.

"-there were no survivors in last night's house fire. It is currently unknown how the fire started, but police are working on it..." spoke the woman on the television. Nightshadow was eating a sandwich at the table, paying no attention to the TV. Jason was watching the news with Harmony on what had happened.

"Hey guys!" Nightbird greeted. "Hey sis," Nightshadow replied as she looked up, a few crumbs on her muzzle. She blinked. "You're happy today," she said. Nightbird nodded and bounded over to the couch, jumping up onto the back and curling up. She pet Jason's head briefly, before turning her attention back to the TV.

"So some girl died in a fire last night," Jason muttered. "Her house burned down while she was sleeping. Kinda sad." Nightbird hummed in agreement, flicking her tail.

The rest of the day was pretty normal, except for a much happier Nightbird. It was odd, considering how sad she was the other day. Nightshadow was both confused and worried.

At around 1:41 PM, Nightshadow came home after a patrol, holding one of her large ears over her right eye. Nightbird, who had been playing with a pen, looked up just as the pen went flying across the room and probably entered another dimension because apparently that's where all pens go when we flick them.

"Hey sis! What's wrong?" she asked. Nightshadow sighed and moved her ear, revealing a bleeding wound over her eye. "A couple humans ganged up on me cuz I'm a mutant," she mumbled. She pulled her ear back over her eye again before Jason or Harmony could see her. Nightbird's eyes flashed briefly. "What."

"Sis, it's fine," Nightshadow replied. "They only gave me a couple bruises. This thing was the worst case scenario." Her sister stayed quiet and turned back around. Kind of weirded out, the patched lynx slowly made her way back to her room to clean up her wound.

What she was unaware of? Her sister plotting a painful death for that gang.

Later on, around 2:47, Nightbird was able to catch their scent from Nightshadow's pelt and followed the trail. She found the gang in an alley, then dropped down between the four. "Hello," she greeted. They screamed and took off down the alleyway. Nightbird scoffed. "Wow I'm that bad-lookin'?" She shook her head and took off after them, chasing the gang through the alleyways and into a warehouse. She grinned and flapped her wings, a couple feathers fluttering to the ground as a form of intimidation to the humans. She stalked towards them, slamming the door closed with her tail. "So, you beat up a certain patch-furred lynx a few hours ago, huh?" she purred. "You chose the wrong one." She stood up, pulling out a matchbox, and struck one of the matches. "Who's first~?"

Before one of them could say anything, she tossed the small piece of wood on one of the male's jackets. It immediately started burning, making him panic and violently slap at the growing fire to put it out to no avail. One of the girls screamed and ran, only for a feather-blade to be thrown into her back and stopped short. The male's friend was trying to put the fire out as well, unaware of Nightbird walking up and putting a flaming match on his hair. Due to all the hairspray and gel he probably put on it erupted into flames. He started screeching and ran, frantically hitting his head. Nightbird snorted and started wheezing; even though this was supposed to be serious and a moment of agony for them, it was hysterical.

The other girl, a brunette, ran up behind the mutant with a pipe, going to hit her. Suddenly she whirled on her, knocking the pipe out of her hands and pinning her down with a foot. She raised one of her wings, showing the razor-sharp blades, before bringing it down and literally slicing her upper half into different pieces.

She turned and saw the male with the flaming jacket had put it out (he yeeted his jacket across the warehouse), and was now running towards her. She backed up and launched at him, spinning in mid-air with her wing-blades outstretched.

Slice.

Nightbird skidded to a stop, grinning as she looked over her wing to see the male was on the ground. His entire torso? Sliced and diced.

The gray lynx grinned and looked at the last one. He was already dead. She calmly stepped over the bodies, walking out of the warehouse. She came back a few minutes later with a bottle of alcohol. Like she had done with the house the night before, she doused the humans in the flammable liquid before strikng a match and lighting them up, running out of the warehouse. She smiled and giggled at the thought of that one song "Light 'Em Up" she heard. She looked up, flapped her wings and took off, leaving the bodies to burn.

She didn't know that Jason had witnessed the whole thing in hiding.
