Twenty-seven years.
It has been twenty-seven years since I last felt an emotion.
I was three when I cried all those feelings out. I was three when I witnessed my family get slaughtered in front of me. I was three when I survived the Chang Family Massacre.
I don't mind being apathetic to be honest, it actually comes in handy during a fight. I can't feel any physical pain, or anything other than just a cold numb in my mind. At least I don't feel survivor's guilt anymore. Unfortunately I...still don't recall what being loved felt like. Gia, my friend, has attempted to explain to me what it's like, but there's only so much a girl who's been single her entire life can say.
That is...until I met him.
It started with simply bumping into each other on a sidewalk. Then small talk, and a conversation. A good first impression, Gia said when I told her. I didn't know what she was talking about.
Eventually we started to see each other more often. On rooftops, running into each other in stores, crosswalks, etc. He did the...what is it... smile, thing, whenever he saw me. I never knew what to do so I just mimicked it, as I'd seen other people do.
Then we started to hang out. Usually we talked, sometimes we'd spar. Gia would be excited, and ask things in a giggly manner like, "When's the wedding?" or "Looks like things are getting pretty serious". I still don't know what she means.
In recent weeks, I've been noticing slight changes in his behavior. His face turns a light red whenever he sees me, which I think is called a blush? He also seems to be more protective. Gia said he had a crush on me. I don't know what that is.
Yesterday evening, it was a normal hangout. Sitting on a rooftop side by side, watching the city quietly. He looked at me and smiled...usually I'd think nothing of it and automatically smile back, but it was different this time. My heart did a thing.
Is that what a crush is? If so...I think I'll like it.
