The group at the Slytherin table, in the Great Hall, looked up at the teachers table confusion on their faces as the first years nervously walked in, ready for their sorting."Who is that?" Draco spat, grimacing as he looked at the women sat at the teachers table, dressed head to toe in pink, and not the good pink, the kind that makes you gag and vomit pink.
"Our new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher by the looks of it." Blaise looked far from impressed as he judged the women, noticing the sickeningly smug smile she had on her face.
"She's called Dolores Umbridge." Adeline informed them, having a powerful industry revolved family granted her access of knowing many people, "she's from the Ministry."
"Well what's she doing here if she works for the Ministry?" Daphne asked in confusion.
"Isn't it obvious?" Adeline asked, "it means the Ministry is taking over Hogwarts."
"And it's about time too." Draco grumbled, "they can't possibly make this dreadful school any worse than it already is." He looked in disgust up to the teachers table, "at least that great oaf isn't teaching Care of Magical Creatures this year."
"Students." Dumbledore announced, after the sorting of the first years had finished, making the chatter cease as everyone gave him their full attention "it is with great displeasure to announce our Care of Magical Creatures professor, Hagrid, will not be teaching this year, instead Professor Grubbly Plank will fill in for him. I would also like to welcome our new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, Professor Dolores Umbridge. I'm sure you'd all join me to wish the professor good luck. As usual our care taker Mr Filtch has asked me-"
The group of friends gave each other less than impressed looks as Umbridge gave a little cough, interrupting Dumbledore and standing from her seat, beginning a speech.
"Thank you headmaster, for those kind words of welcome, and how lovely to see all your bright, happy faces smiling up at me, I'm sure we're all going to be very good friends."
"Why is she taking to us like we're five?" Adeline hissed in displeasure as she looked around the hall to see the Weasley twins sniggering to themselves, no one looked even slightly excited for this women to be teaching them.
"The Ministry of Magic has always considered the education of young wizards and witches to be of vital importance. Although each headmaster has brought something new to this historic school-"
Adeline snorted loudly in amusement as everyone turned to look at her. Instead of becoming embarrassed the girl simply nodded at the woman and sniggered softly. Umbridge scowled at the girl before carrying on with her dull speech.
Adeline looked up at the teachers table, past Umbridge to see Professor Snape, her head of house and her potions teacher, shaking his head at her and smirking. She only smirked back at him and rolled her eyes at her new DADA teacher's boring tone.
"Now," Dumbledore continued after Umbridge deemed her speech worthy enough of being finished, "we eat."
Adeline's eyes lit up in excitement, this was her favourite part.
"Can you actually believe Dumbledore hired that bitch?" Pansy scoffed as she glared at the pink woman.
"Yeah, I can." Draco disagreed, "his standards must keep dropping lower after every DADA Professor we have either dies, quits or becomes injured."
"Just shows how much this school is going in the bin." Adeline agreed, "although with Dumbledore as headmaster mother and father always knew this was bound to happen. I wish I spoke French so I could go to Beauxbatons."
"I was supposed to go to Dumstrang you know?" Draco boasted, "got a letter from them and everything. Father said it was too far away and sent me here instead. What a mistake he made."
"Shame." Adeline muttered.
"I could be offended by that you know?" Draco turned to the girl, "we should be getting along this year, you know? We share a prefects dorm together." The boy wiggled his eyebrows and winked at her, "imagine all the things we could get up to alone."
"Knock it off Malfoy." Adeline scoffed, "you're not a very easy person to get along with."
"And you're saying you are?" Draco asked in disbelief, scoffing, his stormy grey eyes widening.
"You'd think that having your parents being so close and you two knowing each other since birth, you'd have learnt to get along by now." Daphne told them in amusement, "you two sound like an old married couple."
"Married!" The pair exclaimed at the same time, looking at each other in disgust.
"Like I would marry someone like her." Draco scrunched his face up, looking up and down at Adeline's thin figure, adorned in stylish robes and wearing the most expensive jewellery money could buy.
"Many guys would love an opportunity to be with me you know?" Adeline shot back, "I'm from one of the most prestigious wizarding families in the world."
"Yeah, but love, so am I." Draco winked at her, ending their conversation.
"So guys, are you excited for tonight?" Blaise questioned them, looking in disgust at Crabbe and Goyle as they devoured platefuls of food, "we're meeting at the prefects dorm right?" He looked to Adeline and Draco for confirmation.
"Yeah, don't worry." Draco nodded down the table at Graham Montague, "he's getting us booze in return for an invite."
"Try not to get too drunk this year Addie." Blaise raised his brow at Adeline who simply smiled.
"No promises Blaise dearest, you know how much I like my alcohol."
"That's what I'm worried about." Blaise shook his head, "last time we got drunk you kissed that-"
"Yes Blaise!" Adeline's eyes widened as she stopped her friend from continuing, "I'm well aware of what happened last time I was drunk." The group smirked at the girl as she buried her head in her arms on the table, "the whole school is well aware. That's why only we will be there, so I don't do anything daft."
"What, like kiss me?" Draco asked, winking at the girl.
" I wouldn't kiss you under the imperious curse." Adeline grumbled, their friends shaking their heads.
"And here we go again..." Daphne muttered, rolling her eyes.
