An hour had passed. A long torturous hour of scribbling the same line, over and over. Her wrist was bleeding now, drops of blood dripping onto the paper, staining it a deep red. She held her tears, bit her tongue to stop the sounds of pain being released. The bright side was the pain was doing an amazing job of distracting her from the shrieks of the cats on the wall."Miss Charm, Mr Potter." Umbridge addressed them cheerily, like she wasn't torturing them, Adeline looked up to her, eyes glossy, "I think that's enough for today, you may leave."
Adeline took a deep breath and stumbled onto her feet, gripping onto the table as she became dizzy, "I'll see the both of you tomorrow, my office same time." Umbridge smiled at the and nodded towards the door, "have a nice night."
The brunette quickly paced towards the door and flung it open, immediately releasing her tears and cries of pain as she sunk down against the wall.
Harry Potter looked at the girl uncomfortably, not sure how or to even attempt to comfort her.
"Just one more night." He sighed and sat opposite the girl, her looking up at him, no sign of hatred present in her eyes, "you've only got one more detention left."
"Yeah, and you've got about fifty." Adeline choked out a laugh through her tears and wiped the back of her hand across her eyes, collecting the salt water, "here." She stood up, pulling out her wand, "hold out your hand."
Harry looked at the girl that had made his life hell for the past five years, he didn't trust her.
"For god sakes." Adeline tutted and grabbed his bicep, pulling up his robes to reveal, the bloodied mess of words scrawled onto his wrist.
She muttered a few incoherent words, putting her wand against the blood, watching as it trailed back into Harry's body, not missing the wince he gave as the spell healed his cuts, leaving behind a slight red tinge that outlined the carved words.
"Ferula." She muttered, Harry widened his eyes as bandages appeared from out of thin air and wrapped themselves around his wound.
"How did you-?l" she cut off his question.
"My mother used to use the spell on me when I was younger. It's a bandaging charm. Mother may not have been good with affection, but she certainly knew how to heal my cuts and bruises as a child." Adeline smiled sadly.
"Thank you." Harry thanked her graciously, carefully selecting his words, he wasn't sure what would set her off and he wasn't keen to find out, the boy almost found himself enjoying this side of the girl.
"You know, you're not as bad as yourself and everyone thinks you are." Adeline let out a cold bark of laughter and shook her head.
"Don't get used to this Harry." She informed him, the cold edge on her usual voice removed, a tone of complete exhaustion replaced, "I'm only helping you because I'm too tired to argue."
"You called me Harry." The boy dug deeper, "you're too tired to argue? Do you mean that you're too tired to put on the mean exterior everyone is used to?"
"Careful Potter." Adeline hissed, "don't get too comfortable with me."
"Do you want me to help with yours?" Harry looked down at the girl's wrist, still dripping blood onto the floor, "that looks like it hurts, mine wasn't bleeding that much."
"No." Adeline shook her head and held her wrist up to both their scrutinising eyes, "I'll fix it later, I like being in pain sometimes. Helps me remind myself I'm still a human too."
"I insist." Harry stepped towards her and grasped her arm, her hissing in pain as he ran his finger along her cuts.
"Get off me Potter." She snapped, ripping her arm from his hold, "I told you I'll do it myself."
