Elle

Wednesday 21st December 2018

"Ladies and gentlemen, as we start our descent, please make sure your seat backs and tray tables are in their full upright position. Make sure your seat belt is securely fastened and all carry-on luggage is stowed underneath the seat in front of you or in the overhead bins. Thank you."

Ace and I had sat through a three hour plane journey and were finally landing in Portland where we would meet my mom. Ace was silent the whole time, he hadn't verbally said that he was nervous but I could tell he was. He kept asking questions about my family, wondering what things he should avoid talking about and what they liked talking about. It was cute, to be honest.

The cabin crew walked down the aisle of the plane to ensure everyone's seatbelts were on before they sat down themselves and prepared for the plane to begin it's descent onto land. "You're sure there's nothing else I need to know?" Ace stressed and I chuckled, shaking my head.

"Stop fretting, they'll love you!" I smiled reassuringly.

He sighed. "I don't know if you've looked at me recently, Elle, but I'm not exactly every parents dream for their daughter. I look like a fuck-up."

"You're not a fuck up, nor do you look like one. My family doesn't judge people by how they look, be polite to them and don't mess me around, they'll be fine," I said, threading my fingers with his in an attempt to soothe his nerves.

Ace remained quiet but I knew he was still anxious, however I kept ahold of his hand as I watched the plane descend to the ground until the wheels hit the tarmac and we were safely back on land. A smile lifted onto my face as I looked outside the window and saw the dreary Portland weather, back in California it was still 68°F but here it was raining and freezing outside. I was home.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Portland Interntional Airport. Local time is 4 o'clock in the afternoon and the temperature is 40.2°F. On behalf of FlyEasy Airlines and the entire crew, I'd like to thank you for joining us on this trip and we are looking forward to seeing you on board again in the near future. Have a nice stay!" The flight attendant then once the plane had settled on the ground.

An excited sqeaul left my lips and Ace groaned. "It's only forty degrees here? I didn't pack any sweaters," he complained and a small laugh left my lips.

"Why didn't you check the weather? It's December," I mocked him as we got up from our seats. Ace grabbed our luggage from the overhead compartment, nudging people out of the way as they tried to shove past him. He cleared the way for me to walk in front of him and I squeaked a thank you before walking towards the exit of the plane.
