Onyx was up before the sun was, dressed in all black armor, her glorious sword strapped to her hip and hidden under the long black cape she wore. Daggers were strapped around her body, hidden underneath her clothes and a bag of white ash arrows were strapped to her back, the bow in her hand.
She had been up training since midnight, her body screaming with pain and her magic sizzling underneath her skin as she pushed herself to god knows what extent her body could handle. Her fingers were blistered and red, her feet bare and scratched as she wandered around the training grounds of Elsavior, her eyes trained on the target.
In front of her stood charmed wooden soldiers who acted as enemy warriors, nearing her as they prepared to strike. Onyx's grip tightened on the bow, her hand reaching behind her for an arrow. She steadied the arrow between the string of the bow, pulling it back gently but never letting go.
One of the charmed soldiers took a bold step towards, its faceless body angling towards her. Onyx took a breath, pulling the arrow back as she held it steady. She watched and listened, the anticipation building in the air.
In the blink of an eye, a soldier lunged at her, too fast for her to comprehend. With a scream, Onyx released the arrow and winnowed herself away from his point of view. The arrow soared through the air and hit him, deactivating its movements. The wooden body stilled and slumped to the floor, shaking the ground. Immediately, all the other soldiers lunged at her at once, raising their wooden swords at her.
Onyx channeled her magru light magic, a sphere of magic conjuring in her hand. She raised her hand and blasted it towards the soldiers, a shower of light blinding them. The soldiers repelled, allowing her to spread her wings in the air. She soared up, channeling a cloud of darkness and shadows to overcome her. She watched as her body wavered and began to sink into its shadow form, her arms turning into wisps of smoke and her whole body dissolving into nothing but a silhouette.
Her shadow form wandered around the training ground, moving sleazily as the soldiers searched for her. In her shadow form, she watched them carefully, using her nightdweller magic to channel the last light of the night stars into a crackling whip in one hand and a dark flame in the other.
As soon as they were turned away from her view, Onyx emerged from her shadow form, her large, black wings channeling powerful winds that threw the wooden soldiers off-balance. They stumbled upon themselves, confusing their allies for the enemy. Attacking amongst their group, Onyx unleashed her whip, the tail curling around one of the wooden soldiers.
She threw the solider in the air, whipping it once again. The wooden body of the soldier shattered, creating an explosion of brilliant light. The other soldiers turned her direction, their weapons aimed at her. This time, she aimed her dark flame towards them, watching as the flame touched the wood and lit it on fire.
The wooden soldiers screamed as they were engulfed in suffocating dark flames, barely able to see her as she flew around them, channeling her light magic once again until it grew into a gigantic star in her hand. Flapping her wings hard, she was able to create a tunnel of wind, watching as it blew the wooden soldiers around. The twirled around each other in a delirious dance, clustering in the muddle as they struggled to regain balance.
