As our ships soar through lightspeed, I can hear BB-12 in the back beeping nervously.
"It's all right buddy. We'll be fine. I'm a pretty good pilot." I say with a laugh. BB-12 lets out a series of beeps that tell me that he's still nervous.
Over the intercom, I hear Poe's voice.
"Roger base. Red quad, blue squad, black squad, take my lead." He says.
A multitude of voices cascade in, confirming what Poe says.
"Black Eight dropping out of lightspeed." I say in the comlink. I turn my head upwards, and flick a couple switches. My X-wing drops out of the long blurring tunnel of blue streaks.
More and more X-wings arrive, and soon Poe has taken the lead again. Our ships dive towards the black hexagon on Starkiller's surface. The oscillator stands out against the snowy expanse of the weapon.
"Almost in range! Hit the target dead center, as many runs as we can get." Poe says.
"Approaching target." Snaps says.
Multiple pilots acknowledge, including me. We dive to unload our weapons on the oscillator.
"Let's light it up!" Poe says.
In quick succession, all of our X-wings unload fire. The oscillator begins to explode in multiple places, but it's not enough.
Our ships pull up.
"Direct hit!" Bastian says.
"But no damage!" Ello Asty says. Over the comlink, all of the pilots react.
"Yeah, we got to keep hitting it!" Poe says. His X-wing swerves and soon he's heading back to the middle of oscillator. "Another bombing run! Remember, when that sun is gone, the weapon will be ready to fire. But as long as there's light, we got a chance."
I can hear faint beeping over the comlink, and I know BB-8 has seen something.
I turn around and look behind. I gasp. "Guys! We got a lot of company!" I yell.
Our X-wings scatter. TIE fighters scream out at us, and soon the air is filled with the sounds and colors of an air battle.
I shoot down one, two, three fighters. They explode before they even reach the surface of the planet.
BB-12 beeps at me nervously. You got one right behind you.
"Yeah, yeah I know." I urge my X-wing to go faster. I angle it upwards, and once I'm far enough from the battle, I roll my ship and dive back towards the ground.
The TIE pilot, still confused from what just happened, has lost sight of me.
Voices crackle over the comlink, but one particular one stands out. Lula.
