Mendes Barbecue

It's a Mendes family barbecue and Shawn brought Camila along for her first time of going.

It was a little nerve wracking but it helped knowing that his family liked her.

"Babe, want another one?" Shawn asked, pulling a beer out of the fridge.

"Um, no but I'll take a water."

"Okay," He nods, digging into the back of the fridge to get Camila a water.

Camila and Aaliyah were just starting to get to know each other, she was just starting to open up to Camila and he loved watching that.

She was going on about a new play that happened at the hockey game she went to the night before when the door bell rang out throughout the house.

Shawn smiled and answered the door for his Mom, being pulled into hugs from his friends that were at the door.

But Camila's heart stopped when Aaliyah looked up, smile erupting on her face as she jumped up from her spot next to Camila.

"Lauren!" She cheered, tackling Lauren with a huge hug.

"What are you doing here Laur?" Shawn asked, hugging her next.

His arms circled around her tiny waist, locking around her, face burying in her neck, eyes shut.

Camila looked down at her empty hands, noticing the drinks he was getting on the table next to him.

"Heard the superstar was back in town, had to come over and say hi." She answered his question, rubbing his back up and down as she hugged him.

"It's been too long," He sighs, pulling back just slightly.

Camila stands and looks around, wondering if there was another place she could go to so she didn't have to watch this.

"Camila, have you met Lauren?" Aaliyah asked, noticing her stand.

Camila look over, Shawn's eyes widening when he finally looks back over at her.

"Babe, meet Laur." He says waving for her to come join the group.

Camila put on a tight lipped smile, stopping to grab her water along the way.

"Oh sorry, I got distracted." He says pointing to the water.

"It's okay, I got it." Camila smiles at him, looking at Lauren.

"Laur this is Camila, Camila this is Laur." He introduces the two of them.

"Camila? I don't think you've ever mentioned a Camila before." Lauren looks to Shawn, who shrugs in response.

Camila swallows thickly, jaw tensing as he moves almost a little closer to her.

The group gets carried away with conversation, slowly moving outside where games and the grill were set up.

Camila stood away from the group, talking to his cousins about nothing really.

"Where's Shawn?"

"He's catching up with some old friends, didn't want to intrude."

"Intrude on what?" Karen asked.

"Shawn catching up with Lauren and the boys." Camila answers, looking at her toes.

"Did he say you were intruding?" She asks as she serves up some fruit.
