Camila's POV

I've never been a big fan of New Year's Eve parties. My history with them has been rocky. When I was old enough to go to parties I always imagined they would be wild, and fun and so memorable, but it was kind of the opposite. They always ended up pretty lame with a bunch of drunk people around me, nothing to enjoy. This year I was really hopeful, Shawn and I started dating earlier in June, and I was excited to spend the New Year's Eve with him. Guess fate had other plans.

He was supposed to come back to me to New York on the 30th but he got caught up and missed his flight and the problem was that all other flights were full. I can't say I'm not disappointed, because I am, but I can't do anything about the situation. So this leaves me here, alone at home on the last night of the year. I wasn't in the mood to go anywhere alone, though my friends asked me to go with them, I just wanted to stay at home.

I'm lying on the couch with a bag of chips on my stomach, I have a glass of champagne on the coffee table, just to be formal, and I'm watching some lame Christmas movie in the TV. I check the time and there is only ten minutes left from the year.

I sigh and putting the chips to the side I sit up. I look down at my phone and check if I have any messages. Shawn haven't replied in a while and honestly, it bothers me a bit. I wonder what he is doing right now, even though he said he would just stay at home with his parents. I decide to send him another message.

To: Shawn
hey, is everything ok? 8 minutes left, wish you were here..

I wait for an answer, but I get none. So tossing the phone aside I lean back and stare at the ceiling in the last five minutes of the year.

Just right before midnight I see a pair of headlights outside, and the car they belong to stops right on our driveway. I sit up suspiciously, no one is supposed to be here. The clock hits midnight right when I head to the door to check who is here, but before I could open it I hear someone curse very loud on our porch.

"Fuck! I'm late!"

I immediately recognize Shawn's voice as he is growling on the other side of the door and I fling it open, to reveal him, only a few steps away from me.

"Shawn?" I ask in disbelief, for a moment I feel like I'm hallucinating. He looks up at me and a shy smile appears on his lips.

"Hey Baby. I'm sorry I didn't arrive in time for a New Year's Eve kiss."

My eyes get teary as I leap into his arms throwing myself onto him, we almost fall over, but he catches me in time and we stay in balance. "Happy New Year, baby," he murmurs into my ear kissing my temple and leaning back I don't say anything, just kiss him.

We are a few minutes late, but somewhere in the distance fireworks go off right when our lips meet and I'm happier than ever.

"How did you get here?" I ask him when we lean back.

"Well, I really wanted to spend my first moments of the year with you, so I got a private jet. I thought I would get here before midnight, but..."

"It's fine. I'm happy you are here," I smile at him caressing his face. He is here, he really is here. He kisses my nose and keeping an arm around me he leads be back to the door.

"Let's get you inside before you get cold."

"You worth catching a cold," I wink at him making him chuckle before we really head inside and spend the first few hours of the new year alone. Alone and together...
