Ava Young wasn't looking for love but when she met Kim Taehyung, love found her.
Determined to celebrate on the night of their high school graduation, Ava's best friend persuaded her to go to a house party where she would ultimately meet the only bo...
"Are you sure you're not too tired to stay up to talk to me?" Taehyung asks through the computer screen.
It was extremely early. Three in the morning to be exact and I'm running on four hours of sleep, but I haven't been able to talk to him much other than responding to missed texts and receiving replies hours later due to the time difference.
I heard another student complain about how hard it was to talk to her boyfriend just across the country. I couldn't help myself from laughing out loud. She has it easy in comparison.
"No babe, I'm okay. I want to talk to you. How was school today? Did you do good on your exam?" I ask as I rub my eye and take another sip of my energy drink.
"It was okay and I think I did good. What about you? I know you were nervous about that paper you had to turn in."
I hold up my graded essay with a large red A marked on the top right hand corner to show him through the screen. He claps and tells me how proud he is of me for doing so well with that bright boxy smile that I love so much. Even though he said he already knew I would ace it.
It had been twelve weeks since we last physically saw each other and within that time, I had only been able to video chat with him a handful of times.
Uncle Kim keeps in touch quite a bit and we now have weekly Saturday lunches. His business here in the states is doing very well and he now has a team to help him run it when he can't be there. Knowing how hard he'd worked on getting it going here made me so proud of him. He does his best to relay messages between Taehyung and I when our schedules conflict since Uncle Kim is such a night owl and it warms my heart knowing that Taehyung still talks about me to him all of the time.
Taehyung's friends enter the room in the background and walk over to wave at me. I've only learned some very basic phrases to be able to speak to them but thankfully, Taehyung doesn't mind translating for me if needed. I'm glad he's made a lot of friends in college.
Me? Not so much. So far it's just Madison, Megan, and my roommate, Emma. But then again, between work, school and staying in to try to talk to Taehyung as much as I can, I don't have much of a social life.
"They said you should come visit me one day. I agree." Taehyung looks at the camera expectantly.

"I will do my best. I'm working now and saving as much as I can. Maybe on Thanksgiving break or Christmas."
"Well, I'll be actually going away with my parents during Christmas break. They're wanting to take a family trip. If not Thanksgiving then maybe Spring Break?" He says with a disappointed look on his face.
"That's okay." I try to hide my discouraged tone. "We'll figure it out right?"
He nods and smiles. "I miss you. Every day."
"I miss you, too. Have you been fighting off the females left and right since I can't be there to do it for you?" I wink.
"I'm not worried about them. They don't compare." He says with a genuine smile.
